I wish I was there! How do you find/start a group like this? I'd love to have this in my town.

So here's a question:

Our jam's been running for 11ish years in 3/4 locations; would it be of use to you/the community at large if we made a "so you want to start your own jam" starter pack?

We can probably share useful stuff like "how to find a suitable venue", "here's our songbook, here are some others we like" (please credit the work!), how to keep everyone together (percussion and ubass, if you can find them!) etc.

How to find them: I'd Google <your city> + ukulele jam, and also check out Facebook (that's a common org method).

Ours started with my uke teacher and a handful of friends in the basement of our local. You may also find its got more sticking power if you find some local uke teachers who want to encourage their students to play more too; that's been quite symbiotic for us.

Good luck! Let us know if you start it, and where it is so we can drop by!

I'd be interested in starting one in my area! I'm an elementary music teacher that stated a ukuleles program a couple years ago and while I'm no storing player, I've learned enough to stay pretty far ahead of the kids. A bunch of kids have gotten their own ukuleles and it would be great to have them use them somewhere else other than at home and school, and meet others who love playing as well!

I would love to start something like this! I am fairly certain my city doesn't have one

Thank you for replying! Yes, a few pointers would be helpful. I did a search of my area, and every uke group looks to be defunct or at least inactive. In the mean time, I'll contact a few teachers in the area as you suggested. Thank you!

I know! It looks like such fun! If you have a local music store that sells Ukuleles they might have have a few ideas or know if existing groups.

There are a bunch of these in the greater Boston metro area. Meetup.com is the place to find them (or, perhaps, start one of your own.)
