I would love to start wearing earrings again but I’m allergic to the nickel found in most jewelry metal. Where do you get your hardware for earrings?

I was looking into maybe making some and Amazon and a lot of options. They have some surgical steel that may work for you.

I’ll look into surgical steel, thanks for the info!

Btw, surgical steel and stainless steel can and commonly do contain nickel. Surgical and stainless steels are alloys and you'll rarely know exactly what they're comprised of.

Implant grade titanium and implant grade steel are both nickel-free, but are more expensive, and lots of places like to claim they're implant-grade when they're not.

Your safest option is probably silver or gold, tbh. They're readily available, silver can be cheap, and it's safe for most people.

(Sorry for the novel, it's just that I am also allergic to nickel and I'm a bodymod/piercing/jewelry enthusiast!)

These are just from Michaels, so most likely nickel. I didn’t think to get hypoallergenic types! I used to be really allergic to nickel and kind of grew out of it as I got older so I just forgot about it.

Are you okay with sterling silver? Pandora has these hooks you can put charms on. I have a pair and I just use beads or I destroy metal earrings and put them on the hook. Google pandora sparkling earring hook and see! I'm sure it'll make more sense once you see it.

Sterling silver is usually okay as long as it’s 100% as my allergy is rather severe. Thanks for the info!

Love them!!!

That looks like tatting, is it? I've tatted a couple pair of earrings myself.

Not tatting. This is just crochet with embroidery thread and a 1.9mm hook. I tried tatting because I think it's great for jewelry, but I had some difficulty with it and just didn't have the patience to figure it out

Yeah, I gave up, too hard and tedious
