Pixel XL from Verizon on AT&T(Possible upgrade to OnePlus 6T)

Mobile

I bought my Pixel XL on Verizon just over 2 years ago. I switched to AT&T about a year ago and never had any problems until recently.

When I moved into my new office about 4 miles from the old one, I suddenly don't get phone calls. And anywhere near my building I get horrible call quality.

Is there any setting I can change that would fix this, or is it because the phone isn't compatible with the network in this specific area? I went to the AT&T store and was told the phone wasn't compatible. I'm skeptical since it's such a localized issue.

If it's a phone problem, would a OnePlus 6T work? It's about time to upgrade and I'd rather not get a Samsung or AT&T branded phone.

Google Pixel 3

Google Pixel 3XL

Google Pixel 2 (G011A)

Google Pixel 2 XL (G011C)

These are the only Google Pixel devices that do VOLTE on AT&T. That's your issue in this building. Lack of VOLTE means UMTS for calls and not getting good indoor reception.

And just to add, this is AT&T's fault. They artificially limit what Android phones can and cannot use VoLTE and Wifi Calling.

Which they totally have the right to do. Cellular telephone service is not a utility. There are no monopolies like local landline companies. If they want to make a policy based on strictly financial and revenue decisions....kind of their right to do so.

Doesn't have to be a technical justification honestly. I tell everyone the same thing when it comes to this particular issue....if someone is displeased by it, vote with your wallet. Other carriers allow for it and one of those may fit someone's needs if they want VOLTE on an unbranded Android.

I did. I left them for T-Mobile. My unlocked Samsung phones (US models) don't work with AT&T VoLTE or Wifi Calling, but will work with all 3 of the other carriers'. The IMS info pre-populates, but the toggles get hidden when an AT&T SIM is inserted. It's the same hardware and software as the carrier models, except I don't need to deal with AT&T's bullshit bloatware, logos/branding, and removed features.

I was actually getting worse service with AT&T here in NYC since being on a call kicks me down to HSPA+, and HSPA+ is close to unusable here. I was literally not getting my money's worth.

It’s frustrating that almost every other carrier will support these devices fully, but AT&T refuses to allow VoLTE or Wifi calling. Also, particularly in my area, phones won’t fall back to UMTS fast enough to receive calls. People will call you and it will ring several times on their end, but on your end the phone will either never ring or it will only ring the last few seconds before the call is forwarded to voicemail. If you plan to stay with AT&T, and want your phone to work reliably, you might look into getting an AT&T branded phone or one of the few supported unlocked devices.

Trying to avoid anything branded. Maybe a Pixel 3 XL...

I have a One plus 6T on AT&T and while it works great it took a couple of weeks of messing around with everything to get it to recognize lte. Apparently if they enter the correct IMEI address it will kick it down to 4g.
