TIFU by almost flaying myself while shaving
TL;DR at the bottom
Okay here comes some backstory before all the fun stuff!
Since I was a little kid I've had a minor problem with dry and very sensitive skin on some parts body, with my throat and arms being the worst areas. To make matters worse, I live in, what most would consider, a pretty cold county. Because of this "condition", I've had special skin cream prescribed to me as long as I can remember, which I apply in the morning and before I head off to bed. Basically, if I don't like this, my day and night becomes a living hell. Just wearing a long sleeve feels like having 40-grit sandpaper grinding against my arms with every move I make and if I'm stupid enough to forget applying the skin cream to my throat, wearing anything other than a soft and loose t-shirt becomes impossible.
Oh you think finally being able to sleep after a long day at work feels amazing? For me it's like being stripping naked and streched over the Sahara desert if I forget my skin cream.
After finding out the hard way what happens when I don't include applying this cream, into my morning routine, it now is the first thing I usually do right after I shave, which I can only do after I've taken a warm shower since it really helps my skin cope with a sharp shaving knife.
Now back to what you are all here for. Me being pretty lazy during weekends, I woke up late this Saturday and realized that I had to go pick up my parents at the airport at around 2 PM, and waking up just an hour before that, I only had time to shower and not shave before leaving. Since I normally shave in two or three day intervals, I figured that going one extra day without shaving wouldn't be the end of the world and I was only going to pick up my parents. So I finish up showering and my morning routine, including the cream, and head off to pick up my parents. We end up coming home at around 4:30 PM since we stopped for food on the way home. During the afternoon I finish paying some bills that were almost overdue and with the time closing in on 7 PM, I eat dinner with my parents and then head off to bed for some quality time watching The Office.
I end up falling asleep pretty quick and wake up at around 2 AM and feeling extremely uncomfortable since I fell asleep without applying that cream I mentioned earlier. I went to the bathroom to fix this but being drowsy from literally waking up seconds ago, my -42 IQ brain tells me that it's probably better to shave first. Before taking a shower, and with my throat probably being drier than a camels asshole in a sandstorm and more sensitive than I even whant to begin to describe
I apply my shaving cream and start shaving around my throat and after a couple strokes with the blade I feel my mistake badly. At this point I've stopped shaving and I'm trying to process why my throat feels like it got a free ticket to the 9th circle of hell. After about 5 seconds I realise what I've actually done and look in the mirror to see the area that I've shaved being redder than a baboon's ass. I throw off my clothes and bolt for the shower, pointing the nozzle as close to my neck as I can, and stand in the shower for a solid half an hour, just letting the ice cold water extinguish the fire that I started on my throat. Since my throat was so sensitive as well as dry when I started shaving, the shaving knife that I use didn't just shave off the 4 day old stubble, but also what I figure was a half layer of skin as well.
It is now 5 AM as I'm writing this, I've applied the skin cream, but the burning is still so bad that I probably wont get too much sleep tonight
TL;DR Chronically dry and sensitive skin meets sharp shaving knife, skin doesn't like it, starts a revolution and I get to pay for not giving my skin the equality and attention it needed.

I stopped shaving at 18 because of dry skin. I usually trim the facial hair about 2mm and longer in cold weather. I guess it has a little more oil because I don't cut it off and use cooler water to wash my face. I also use glycerin soaps or an almond scented goat's milk one that gf likes the scent of. None of this matters if you MUST shave but it's my experience.
