SciFi internet detective work. Tried Google, but I guess require more Vespene Gas. Maybe reddit's geeks can help.

So, sometime back in the 90s, I read a short fiction piece in Analog: Science Fiction and Fact. The premise of the story was that human consciousnesses and personalities could be transferred onto computer chips, even if you died.

Our hero is one such guy, who's been put into a car. He's essentially K.I.T.T., except he used to be alive, but of course his memories of his past life have been erased. I think he's mostly just a self-aware personality.

In the story, his wife (widow?) manages to track him down and buy him. The story is essentially (as I recall) about our hero and his wife rekindling their relationship.

I have no idea which issue it was in, what the name of the story was, or who the author was.

I do remember that in the story, our hero was put into a sports car? called an Icarus, and his wife (of course) sprung for the extra money to buy him. Very near the beginning of the story, he markedly notes that his wife has great legs.

I'd be super-psyched to get my hands on the story in any format.

Thanks!

EDIT: OK, ewiethoff's link helped me narrow down the range, and in that range, I think it might be "When There's a Will, There's a Way," by Grey Rollins from the February 1996 issue of Analog. Anybody have any ideas how I might be able to doublecheck this theory without ordering a back issue?
