I am not having fun with this game, but I desperately want to

Ace Combat 7

AC7 is my 6th AC game in 20 something years, and I don’t think I’ve ever come close to being as frustrated and unhappy with any of the other games as I am with 7. I know it’s been a very long while since I last played an entry in the series, but I reject any notion that somehow my ability to play an AC has so greatly regressed that I’m struggling as badly as I am.

I would quite seriously pay $10 for DLC that reduced missile spam. It’s so terribly frustrating, especially when you’re trying to complete mission objectives but instead all you can do is try to dodge missiles.

Maybe the missile spam wouldn’t be as much of an issue if my wingman and the rest of the squadron did something other than just flying around chatting away on the radio.

What am I missing here? I know a lot of you are loving this game, and right now all I want to do is stop playing it. And I’m only on the 8th mission. I’ve been looking forward to this game for so long. Please tell me I missed something or forgot something somewhere. A setting, a tactic, anything. Because right now I’ve had my fill of tanker trucks, sandstorms, drones, and missiles.

The game really picks up after mission 12. I agree that the swarm of missiles is pretty ridiculous. Some of that is a function of the drones, but even missions without them it's a problem. It's my biggest criticism of the game. I hope the next game goes for quality of enemies over quantity.

I played all the ace combat games except ace combat 6 and I can agree that the missle spam is obnoxious. I can’t imagine what hard or ace difficulty has regarding missle spam. Still, I am enjoying this game and just barely completing the misssion with just seconds to spare gives you a sense of accomplishment....but yeah screw missle spam lmao!

Honestly, I’m having a hard time differentiating between difficulties. Normal & Ace don’t feel that different from each other except you take about 2.5x more damage from missiles on Ace.

Agree it’s annoying but most of the missiles are completely harmless. Use the radar (closest view) too see where they are coming from. If it’s not directly ahead of behind, it won’t hit you and you can ignore. Even the ones that might hit, you don’t have to do anything until they get close. You can keep doing whatever until they are close (inner circle on radar), throw in a quick 90 degree turn to dodge, then go back to your target. You have to learn to fight through the missiles.

Just got to weve through the missile's

Most missiles won't even hit you unless they're* dead on and you're moving slow. I hardly move during the arsenal bird missions while those missile alerts are going off constantly

I didn't like the game as much at first. Once I understood the new mechanics I was really loving it again. Jumping right in while playing back through AC5, the game feels heavier. Things have a much more realistic weight to the movement and being present. I wish I could issue commands to my squadron as well. I also hate the agility of every single NPC in the game...it's tedious taking something down. I've noticed that if I lock on, force them into a turn and then back off almost to the point of losing a lock on I can double tap the missiles and kill them, unlike on AC5 where I can run them down easily.

That being said, the amount of constant missile lock is infuriating. It's my biggest gripe with the game. I'm really tired of hearing "MISSILE! MISSILE! MISSILE! BEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEERrrrrrrrBEBEBEPBEBPEEPBEPBEPBPEPEBPEB!" for 5 to 20 minutes at a time...

For me it's the timer, and I know i'll get down voted for saying this but why have a timer? I avoid games with timers like the plague as I feel like I'm being forced to rush through the game I've bought. I'm a PC flight simmer, been doing it for about 25 years in sims like DCS and BMS but this is very hard and I've even reduced the difficulty down to easy but the mission where you have to destroy the oil facilities and then the oil trucks in the sand storm is just proving impossible for me. It makes no sense in the game to have a time limit and I know I'll probably never go back to the game again due to the timer.

If I'd known there was a timer I wouldn't have bought it and it's sad because I like the rest of the game (except for the missile spam...) but it's not fun for me.

I agree with you. I've been a fan of the series since AC 2, and I've never timed out as much as I seem to be here. My current drama- the pipeline mission. Had trouble getting the score within 3 minutes until I switched to the A10. But the second half with the invisible tankers in the sand, I find myself having to break away pursuit to handle drains (in an A10 lol) just to not get shot down hunting for these tankers. Just failed above the last two targets, overshot them and cost me the time. And it breaks immersion! "Times up, mission failure. Now the enemy will have plenty of fuel because you were too slow" or some nonsense, when they weren't ANYWHERE near the border and I'd wiped all but those two. It would be better if the objective was to take them out before they hit the map edge, or if we had some sort of squadron support like the last three main games gave us. 4 if you count legacy, though you basically have to choose your support preference before the mission. While I'm being yelled at to "let those other idiots take care of the drones," they are doing NOTHING.

Exactly how I feel. I'm in the A-10 too for that mission as I thought using the 4 air to ground missile shot in one would help me but it doesn't as ALL the drones are after just me and when I'm on the deck, below the storm and trying to find the trucks and then when I do and I'm lined up I get the missile spam all at me! Come on, the storms bad enough, make the drones attack me if I pop up over the top but on the deck it's beyond a joke. I am crashing so much due to making evasive manoeuvres.

So! That mission is actually super easy, barely an inconvenience! First, for the A10, I was using the unguided bomb. Things are so clustered together, it was insane. But the old work hourse is too slow to chase those tankers in the second part.

What I didn't realize is...hitting the oil tanks cause chain explosions.

Use the F2- it's a breeze. Get ahead of your wingman to hit the tank dead ahead before the guy on your right does, starts you +1000 from the jump. Also, my bacon was saved when I realized there was an extra ship docked in the harbor lol

It's not the first part I find a problem because as you say one hit sets off chain reactions. It's the second bit, searching for the trucks whilst getting multiple missiles fired at me whilst my missiles don't get a kick on. There isn't enough time and the timer is very annoying. I may have to get the game on PC if a hack comes out to disable the timer as I hate it.

Before mission 9, I was also complaining on this subreddit like you. Luckily, I started my enjoying myself after with the new planes and developing comms (and NOOO BANDOG) Lol, I think it was intentional but too slow for the story to pick up only half way through

Yea I cant even really make out the soundtrack at times because it's just missile lock and the dick back at base talking constant shit
