TeXnicCenter + MiKTeX: "get host by name failed in tcp_connect()" when trying to install missing packages
I am using TeXnic Center with MiKTeX (both of these are the most recent versions, I literally just reinstalled while trying to fix this issue) on Windows 10.
I am trying to compile a .tex file from TeXnic center and it informs me that I am missing the bbm package: Image
I click install, but get the following error in the TeXnicCenter output log: Image
So I try again and this time I select to "Change" next to "<random package repository>". I select "Packages shall be installed from the Internet" and click "Next". That's when I get the following error: Image
Here's the error log I get when I click "Copy Info":

Here's the full %appdata%\Local\MiKTeX\2.9\miktex\log\latex.log
I tried to install the package manually with the MiKTeX package editor and it shows up: Image
Now I have a hunch that TeXnicCenter is looking for these packages in the wrong place, but I have now idea how to fix this.

This is an error in DNS resolving, you might want to change your DNS server. However I recommend using TeXlive also on Windows instead of MikteX as it's basically the distribution that works everywhere and hence kinda the standard.
Thanks a lot. Setting my DNS server to Google's 8.8.8.8 fixed it. I had been using my Raspberry Pi with PiHole as my DNS server.
That clears it up then, glad I could help!
