Detection of NPD traits
Hey Dr. Grande,
I follow your Youtube channel and am fascinated by the amount I am discovering about NPD. I am recent Narcissistic-abuse-victim-finder-outer-trying-to-get-a -continent-or-tow-between-her-and-myself and all the pieces are clicking and I understand so much more now about so many inexplicable behaviors that were displayed during my 6 years marriage with an NPD which managed to almost destroy me entirely in every way: emotionally, physically, financially, etc.
Anyhow, I was on another NPD thread and asked if there is a more certain way of knowing that someone has strong NPD traits (or is straight-up NPD) that does not involve a "gut" feeling and having to play games with questions and over-analyzing their answers... oh, without the need to hold a PhD in Psychiatry. I am referring to a more scientific method of providing a "probability" ranking that a person is a potential NPD or not. Anyhow, here is the question:
I wonder if having lack of empathy or lack of remorse is [directly] related to the lack of some physical element in the brain that then does/does not produce certain hormones, enzymes other indicators that can then be detected through scientific analysis, without it having to be a psychological probe and a "gut" feeling.
It might not tell if someone is an NPD, but it could tell you they rank 3 on the empathy scale and that could be a useful indication that perhaps this person could be one.
Disclaimer: I am not a physician/genetic scientist and have no idea what I am talking about. Just trying to find the closest method possible to a procedure to probe the next person I encounter so that I never, ever let a Narc in the door and let this happen to myself again. - Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/LifeAfterNarcissism/comments/ajevmg/question_how_to_highest_possible_percentage_vet/eezc47m
I then thought you perhaps might know if there studies that have been done, underway, or if this suggestion is just plain nonsense. I know you answer questions on your Youtube channel, but not sure where you get those questions from. If this is not a proper channel, feel free to delete the post and point me in the right direction. Thanks!
