How to upgrade 380 Rakshasa gear into 390 Yama gear.
Making this post because I thought more people knew about this, but I just had to show half my FC how to do it so perhaps more people would like to know. YES! If you have 380 Rakshasa gear (the crafted stuff) you can upgrade it to 390 gear and avoid the tiresome Genesis grind or weekly Monastery runs without the pieces you want!
- Go to Rhalgr's Reach and speak to Enna <Tomestone Exchange> (13.8, 11.5)
- Choose Allagan Tomestones of Mendacity (Other)
- Buy as many Doman Reiyaku as you can. They cost 100 Mendacity each you need 7 for a weapon, 5 for major gear slots (chest/legs), 3 for minor gear slots (head/hands/feet) and 2 for accessories/belt.
- Now, run across the zone and speak to J'tandhaa <Exchange> (9.6, 11.5)
- Choose Earn Rakshasa Tokens or Earn Rakshasa Tokens (HQ) depending on the quality of your gear.
- Of the three options, choose which one you want to upgrade, Weapon, Gear (Left side), or Accessories (Right side)
- You will need to trade your Rakshasa gear to the vendor for Rakshasa Tokens.
- Once you have the Rakshasa Tokens choose Use Rakshasa Tokens (HQ).
- Once again, choose the appropriate option for which piece you want.
- Trade the Rakshasa Tokens and Doman Reiyaku for any piece of Yama gear.
NOTE: You can trade for any piece of gear, so be careful you don't exchange for a different piece than you gave up for Tokens.
EDIT: Some commenters have pointed out something! I made this guide as someone who already had a set of 380 gear to trade in, but if you don't and would still like to take advantage of this system you can buy cheap 380 gear like the Head piece and convert it to Tokens for gear you actually need.
Hope this helps and if anyone has questions let me know!

Better yet, just mass craft HQ i380 Caster/Healer hats and turn those in. They barely cost more than accessories material-wise (like three ingots, 1 Reisui, and 1 Pally nugget) and are worth significantly more Foodstamps mat-for-mat than trading in any other item.
I'm confused. If, for example, I trade my Rakshasa headpiece in for a Yama headpiece, where did I lose? I'm not suggesting people trade in just for the tokens, doing a 1:1 trade seems like the best way to go for this.
I think it's like 2 hat's for 3 right side pieces? Something close to that.
I bought a bunch of cheap hands/feet for random classes, whatever was cheap and filled in a serious amount of slots. Like under a mills worth of gear got me like 5 slots.
But if I already have the 380 accessories then why would I buy/craft MORE to trade? Just trade in the 380 to make it 390.
because most ppl dont have crafted gear and instead of buying a full 380 set (1 for each slot) for like 5 million, you can just buy cheap items for any class for 2.5m and trade those for points and then buy the items you need from the npc. sure a HQ weapon will give you 27 points to buy the 390 HQ weapon, but so do 3 HQ accessories (3x 9 tokens), which might be cheaper than any weapon. thats the logic, whats actually cheap depends on your market
Say I'm a fresh lvl 70 and don't have any crafted 380 gear for my class (eg. my first melee dps). Rather than get each respective piece of 380 gear to upgrade to 390, I might as well skip 380 by using something that's more efficient/cheaper per token.
what me and my friend were doing was crafting dragoon lances because all weapons give 27, which means 7 of them will get you an entire set of gear and some change, for any job. Keep in mind you need mendacity for every upgrade.
But if healer hats are even easier, and you aren't exactly opposed to making more of those things, then I guess it's probably a benefit to go for those instead.
Either way, all "food stamps" can get all gear.
