[Guide] How to fix Steam's curation problem with 4 mouse clicks.

Despite all the complaining about the lack of curation on the Steam store, Valve gives you everything you need to curate it yourself.

Click your name on the top right of the Steam client, click "store preferences" then uncheck the two boxes in this picture.

That's it. Steam store curated.

This doesn't help with hentai crap flooding my queue.

It doesn't help unfortunately, excluding doesn't make it ignore completely.

You left three boxes checked by mistake...

That doesn't address the problem that it's basically required to either know exactly what you want on the store or to use a third party site because games that aren't pre-orders/early access are clogging up the storefront.

This wouldn't be as much of a problem if Valve released their "algorithm" they spoke to TB/Jim Sterling about back in 2017 but we're still waiting on it.

The whole metadata concept on the steam store is horribly broken, inefficient and a nuisance at best.

For example, trolls use tags to annoy people. So you find user tags with "horror" on child games.
To filter out "unwanted" hentai stuff, it gets quite complicated in search terms, and that based on badly set tags.

A metadata fix would include new property you can't yet search for.

I would like to be able to check for publishers with "less than x releases" per month/year (that would
filter out asset flippers)

I would like to have a "finish state in percent" property for early access games that gives me the % of the game finished.
Everything below xx% or something would be filtered out.

If you could access fine tuned publicised filter lists by other users on a wadload of properties, the discoverablity would raise tremendously.
Currently, the system is gamed (like on the other mobile appstores) by people with money and/or negative intention to game the search system.

Steam could fix this easily, but maybe they just want to keep the 30c they get on the wadloads of 1$ assetflips. Who knows.

I use that and their exclude games with tags options. It is far from enough. Unfortunately, there is a maximum on the number of tags that you can exclude. In addition to that, it will often exclude games that I am actualy interested in, since it removes all games with that tag, regardless of how many other tags it has.

Steam doesn't have a curation problem. It has an organizational problem. The store needs to have finely tuned controls on what you want to see....however that is against what Valve is trying to do, which is sell games. So they want to put as much garbage in front of you as possible.
