They know what you did.
I am going to have to kill my cat. He knows too much.
A huge con would be that we’d here them beg for their lives before we slaughter them
If this was suddenly a reality then:
Pro- we would probably catch a ton of criminals.
Suddenly Serial killers, thieves and predators are handed over in masses.
Cons- Your dogs definitely gonna turn you in to the authorities or simply spill your secrets.
Having to listen and getting reminders.
Why did you neuter me!
You could talk to old turtles about what happened hundreds of years ago!
Pros
We would see animals as more than just food and slaves when we find out how they feel about treating them.
Animal psychology will spike.
We could better understand their needs.
Shock collars will (hopefully) be banned.
Cons:
Our perception of animals will change. For example, dogs may be judgemental after all.
Society will be divided on how to treat animals.
Polititians will exploit this ability.
Pets will be a lot more annoying.
How would politicians exploit it? Like identity politics for animals?
Pretty much

Lol you know that's not at all what I meant. Does Spot ever tell you how dinner was?

That communicates being not hungry anymore.

There's an episode of Bojack Horseman that explores a related idea. In the show there are many anthropomorphized species, one of them is chickens. Apparently, in that universe, they also eat chickens, the same way we do. It's a strange episode.
We would find out how traumatised a lot of the house pets are. They've seen things :’(
