If the gym doesn’t stink a little then it’s suspect

Carpe Diem in Aoyama was amazing.

Am visiting Japan next month, care to share what was so cool about it? I'm curious to visit.

First of all people speak English. It’s super welcoming, super clean, and the atmosphere in general is just very positive. Definitely give it a go!

Sounds cool! Will definitely pack my gi and pay a visit. Do you remember what their drop in fee is?

Don’t remember, I’m sorry. It wasn’t ridiculous if I remember correctly.

Two years ago I was in Denmark training BJJ. It was my first time looking for a BJJ gym outside the U.S.... so much fun!

Just recently I've discovered there's a group called "BJJ globe trotters" and they travel the world and bring mats with them to train in random places. So where are the coolest places you've trained BJJ?

What I find interesting when traveling is how the culture impacts the BJJ experience a little. (Photo is from Roots athletics in Philadelphia)

Woah, that place looks like a Lamborghini garage except it's for martial arts.

I've walked by there. Always thought about dropping in and I wasn't even training at the time.

Same. Their locker room is nicer than some high-end gyms and spas

When traveling how do you guys handle clothes/gi after training?

Also, is it acceptable for a newer white belt to visit other gyms or should that be a little later on to appreciate the differences that I might not realize at this early stage?

Within a month of training I went overseas and dropped Into another gym, ended up rolling with a black belt for the first time that trip. Just goto the beginners classes, also contact them before hand to say your a fresh whitebelt, make sure they allow drop ins, and check there gi policy(I generally always travel with a white gi only)

Also I’ve done two things while traveling, book a hotel near a laundromat, or book a hotel room with a bathtub, and hand wash my gi in a bathtub and hang dry outside.

Thanks for the info!

I bring a laundry bag for dirty clothes and I'll find a laundry mat and wash it when ever I can, preferably asap.

I always go on the website/check yelp and yeah calling a day before works. Sometimes gyms will let you in for free if you're traveling but be prepared to pay up $10-$25 for a drop in.

A certain gym in Hawaii charged me $50 for a drop in, I’m there expecting a big turn out, it was me and one other guy. But at least I got to have a photo with the professor.

Haven't been to Hawaii yet, I just imagine green lush landscape and beaches. Is everything near tropical waters?
