End-Game Gearing

Question

I hit level 30 with a character and was wondering if there are some more noob-friendly guides out there. The amount of info out there is overwhelming and I don't understand a lot of it.

I get the sets, and the differences between a regular set and classified. I get the attributes and bonus talents. I even had a guy recalibrate my gear to make me a DPS build. One problem I am stuck at is that I am starting to collect set bonus gear that I like, but it is weaker and not properly calibrated. Would 270 gear without a set bonus be better than say 256 gear with it? Is the 256 gear worth recalibrating?

I know how to extract from the DZ and I get the brackets. I know a few of the named yellow guys on the map, I run around killing them on map 5. I don't really know how else to get the top gear.

Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at u/absolutmaddness0914's videos in that playlist. There's a lot of good information in there about what loot is good vs. what is trash.

A rule of thumb would be: get the right stuff for the build, then recalibrate gear/weapons and when that's done optimize for max gear score.

P.S.: Note that you can recalibrate two stats on classy gear and only one on high-end/non-classy!

So following this: keep grinding until I get classified gear from the sets that I want. If the classified gear has stamina or FP as a main stat, I should be ok, since I can reroll two of the minor attributes.

Yeah, roughly. You also could roll the main stat an one of the minor attributes if that would make the gear piece “good”.

Also, if you get a less-than-optimal gear piece that completes your let’s say 6pc classy PvE Striker and you don’t get maximum DTE at first, you’d still run with that piece until you find a better one. You maybe don’t want to waste 400 DivTech on optimizing that piece, tho.

Ok. Right now my set gear pieces are all over the place. I have a classy Banshee chest, that has the proper attributes (but that is the only Banshee piece I have). I have 1 classy and one non-classy Nomad set, but I would need to reconfigure those. My current gear is all weighted towards firepower with health on my gear mods.

Getting the gear is the easy part. Check out section 3 of my guide for the most efficient methods.

Knowing what to do with the gear is much more complex.

The best answer I can give, without devoting several paragraphs, is to say that build synergy is vastly more important than GS or any specific stat. You want to identify a set with bonuses that work with your playstyle, plan ahead for how that build will work when you have all the pieces, and look for complementary weapons with talents that can be unlocked when the build is completed.

That is, Responsive is a great weapon talent, but its high firearms requirement makes it impossible to unlock on an AR when using a 9k stamina PM build, or on an SMG when using a 9k stamina D3 build, so Responsive is at best only a temporarily valuable talent for partial PM or D3 builds.

The only time it is wise to use a single setpiece in a non-ninja build (i.e. no set bonus active) is when the standalone piece is a classified holster. Otherwise, it is always better to have 2+ pieces from a set (or 1+ninja). Also note that it is a waste to wear a fifth or sixth piece from a set if one or two of the pieces are non-classified, so if you have four classified pieces for a set, great, but don't equip a fifth non-classified piece from that same set.

Some HE and exotic builds are viable, but generally these are few and far between, and more specifically they are very temporary placeholders while you pursue full classified sets. Really, don't bother. Apart from the ninja backpack and Barrett's vest, the other exotic gear pieces (not weapons) are not really worth using (but save them for the Shield); yes, Ferro's mask or Shortbow knees are viable in very specific cases, but fuck that noise -- don't bother.

Start your chase for gear with a 4-piece (or 3+ninja) D3 build, with 121k SP (meet this threshold, exceed it only if you must for weapon talents). This build can solo all challenging content with ease. Try out a 4-piece TA build, too, as it can solo legendary content (with a Relentless backpack), albeit with difficulty until you get classified pieces.

Ignore the DZ -- it is not especially great for gearing up, and until you get the gear, you will likely suffer as your build will not be able to compete against any PvP builds and rogues you encounter. Follow my guide until you get the gear, and then research the ways to recalibrate that gear for maximum benefit.

Finally, recognize that we have a week until the open beta of TD2, or three weeks until the released game -- TD1 will very likely become a barren wasteland as most players migrate, so your efforts here may be better spent.

Good luck!

Your questions are too general btw but rule of thumb is;

Your main stats need to meet the minimum Gear Bonus and Weapon Talent requirements that you prefer. -For me, on the Assault Rifle that would be Destructive & Predatory, the free talent Determined. (I like getting skills back faster but you can go with whatever fits your situation.)

So that means for me I need ~4700 into Stamina at minimum or I use Predatory as the 3rd talent (Free)
Unless it's something specialized (Commanding etc..) you don't need anything extra into Electronics.

That's your base gearset.

If you're playing PvE with a shooter set then prioritize your gear rolls for Enemy Armor Damage & Damage to Elites.

Whatever your weapon of choice is that's what you want rolled on your gloves. I would choose only one.

On Chest & Knees you can roll Health if you prefer more toughness or you might want Skill there.

On Backpack I like Stability for the AR but you can go Skill Power if you use skills often- whatever you prefer.

On my Holster I generally go with Reload Speed.

If you are using SMGs you basically want to roll CHC & CHD everywhere you can and run as much on your weapon as you can.

For an Electronics build you want Skill Haste and Skill Power where you can

So someone helped me put together a decent base to start from right now. My focus was pure DPS at this point (the actual damage not the stat).

Most of my gear is HE, with a classified Banshee chest (good stats) and exotic knees (I think it's knees).

I would like to build towards a Predator's Mark set (I have one piece currently) but I am toying with the idea of a Nomad set since my friends aren't L30 yet and I don't know if/when that will happen.
