Shower thought: The next set will let you build Oops all Merchants.

With Nicto, of course.

With Nicto and the Unit that let's you Echo the top unit of your deck and then you hit the Merchant with Echo and start juggling Nicto and Echo Merchant.... sounds fun.

And by fun I mean Merchants are gonna get Market-Bound quick.

Market bound. Thats a smart way to balance things. Have future smugglers/merchants market bind the card you put in.

I'm not sure all cards need it... but maybe. It was something I thought about to help with these Fate shenanigans, like Voidbound on the sources of cards that cause void recursion to get out of hand. Yeah, I'm looking at you Excavate. I suspect DWD has better ideas than I do though... But I do think they can see how Merchant/Smuggler juggling is teetering toward a point of getting out of hand.

"No refunds."

You say that like it isn't already a thing- 40 merchants, some jotun hurlers/xo- already works.

oops, all cargo

The only disappointing thing is that with a black market you can't swap Nicto for Nicto unless you copy it with Twinning Ritual.

Or you run the Nictos maindeck and hope to draw them. Unfortunately, there's no good way to tutor for Nicto from deck; best option is Rise.

Rise isn't a half bad tutor. Before merchants it probably was the best

A few weeks ago I got really excited about this deck, crafted it, and then was super disappointed.

In practice it's very clunky to play, pretty much any fat body ends you, especially when it seems like 80% of the game is playing some variety of recursion. An opening hand of Little Vara+Dark Return and the next twenty cards all being power felt like enough to auto-win against this.

...but hey now I have a Savior of the Meek so I've got that going for me

apricotknight•

Huh. I haven't actually tried it, but figured smugglers wouldn't be bad crafts, then forgot about it.

If there was a way to give a card in hand Echo that was controllable and not insanely expensive, combining many merchants with [[Nesting Avisaur]] or [[Journey Guide]] to drop the cost could make for a state where you can endlessly flood the board with merchants.

Once I was playing Nictocrown and I had Journey Guide out, drew a GV Smuggler and rolled Echo. I had a second merchant and a Twinning Ritual.

Sadly my opponent conceded before the massacre began.

Hell, as long as we're going that way, why not add Crown to the mix? What we really want is a deck, hand, and board FULL of echo, echo, echo, echo...

If the meta becomes all merchant decks it will end up being the first time since open beta started that I've uninstalled the game.

Hopefully they'll either put a limit on the amount of merchants you can have in a deck or just nuke all the merchants(remove the battleskills from them, or nerf all their stats to 0/2's or 1/2's or something).

IstariMithrandir•

Knowing DWD, there'll be a period when we get used to more hyper pushed smugglers, and then eventually, if people complain they'll then nerf some. The people thus rejoice in their OP shenanigans for a while, till a new meta dawns with an update. No need to uninstall.

We need to build a degenerate control deck that has a 60+ win percentage against the field and takes 10+ minutes to win that features Merchants. That gets stuff nerfed faster than torching a turn 2 Teacher.

cries in Temporal

cries harder in Chalice

This thread just made me realize I don't completely understand merchants.
