Question about stray dogs in Harris county

Ok so I'm out in spring but I'm sure other people have had these sorts of issues before. I was out walking my pupper and came across two friendly and somewhat well kept dogs, although they didn't have collars. Anyway a neighbor was out with them trying to find their owners and we had to go and couldn't help but it got me to wondering.

Where do I take a stay dog without a collar or other identifying tags after hours? Do I just have to hold onto them until the next day and then take them to a shelter? We looked and it seems like most places stop accepting drop offs at around 430.

If you're outside city limits but still in Harris County, call Animal Control at (281) 999-3191

For more info go to:

My current residence is just inside the City of Houston city limits, but when I tried to turn in a stray dog, I was sent to H.C. Animal Control because I'm outside of the city as far as animal control is concerned. I don't know where their boundary line is, but it seems odd that it's different than the city limits for PD, HFD, city water & sewer, etc.

By the way, up here near Hollister and West Gulf Bank, there are healthy, happy, well-behaved dogs running around all over the place. I see a bunch of them every evening when I take my two dogs for a walk along White Oak Bayou.

The dogs must be getting fed. But who lets dogs they care about just roam the street?

Thanks you. Yeah I thought the same thing. I'm thinking the two I saw were abandoned in our neighborhood.

From what I've witnessed, mainly people with low IQ's....
