Idea: Allow certain amount of proxies per deck in UNRANKED as a means for players to test decks before committing wildcards.

Discussion

It would be an interesting way for players to test a deck (or just a tweak on their existing deck) before spending wildcards.

  • Decks can contain X amount of proxies (4, 6, 8?)

  • Decks with proxies can only be used in unranked / friend challenge.

Good for players, bad for WotC

Non comp paper magic allows proxies. Making a cap on it, and how many games per month etc. That way you could get people intrigued, leading them to try and get the cards when they can no longer proxy them.

Non comp paper magic allows anything...

Has any online card game done similar?

Yes, give players entire collections for free! This idea would certainly make WotC lots and lots of money! /s

in case you missed the point - the idea is kinda similar to the first fix being free with the intention to entice potential customers to buy your product. the strategy is fairly widespread in other areas, such as free first drink of the day, various coupons etc. so in this case it would encourage people to make decks and see if they're fun and later commit WCs, while now a lot of us are hoarding WCs and feel anxious in spending them. in the long run the suggested marketing startegy might just be in WotC's favor, because people would spend WC without fear (they had the option to test a deck and found it fun) and buy packs for additional WCs. there is the drawback of people playing only with proxies, hence the limitation on them. it's an interesting idea, but would probably have to be tested to determine whether the overall effect is positive for WotC or not (i don't think we can make valid predictions as of now, lacking any data and in a trade-off situation proper quantifiaction is necessary; just discussing pros and cons gets us nowhere). cheers

Except that that is not what that suggestion does, what it does is "every fix is free as long as you only do it in your own house".

If you get the entire collection for free while playing unranked, then why would you ever play ranked or events? Ranked and events reward you with ways to increase your collection, but you already have all the cards in unranked, so...

This entire thread is nothing more than another "I wan't more free stuff" thread from people who have no intention of spending any money in the game but wan't to play with all the toys anyway.

4 proxy cards per deck is not "entire collection for free"

i disagree. the presented idea is very barebones, but could be tweaked. for instance, you get, idk, up to 5 games with proxies per day, set max proxies per rarity per deck. proxy decks don't count towards daily wins. the used proxy cards cannot be used as proxies again for, idk, 3 months (obviously i'm pulling the numbers out of thin air and they could be tweaked).

when arguing your case, maybe consider not putting words into other people's mouth. sometimes also refered to the strawman fallacy. in your argument examples of that would be getting the entire collection for free. nobody said anything about that. nor is it a call for more free stuff. it's an idea that would potentially benefit both WotC and customers. the idea is analogous to marketing strategies already employed with success in other parts of the economy. (i'l emphasize again - idk if this would end up benefitting WotC; it might or it might not, but i do find it an interesting idea). cheers

Seems like a decent idea. It's definitely something I'd make use of to test out ideas.

Having the option to test your proxy deck in deckbuilder would be quite useful.
