Phone automatically closes apps when headphones are plugged in

I have a Samsung Galaxy Amp Prime 3. When I have headphones plugged into my phone, it will occasionally close out of all apps that I have open in order of pages visited and then apps used (for example, if I have visited r/insanepeoplefacebook, then r/softwaregore, then gone to Instagram and visited Beyonce's account and then Ariana Grande's, it will close out of all of those pages in backwards order). This happens with any wired headphones and only happens on my phone, not any of my other devices and not with Bluetooth headphones, leading me to believe there is a problem with the headphone jack. This has been happening since I got this phone in October. Anyone have any clue what the problem is?

Edit: I suspect that the headphones do something to activate the back button, as the headphone jack is close to it. Anyone have any clue how this could be happening or how to stop it?
