Chrysalis, a keyboard configurator GUI with support for Splitography

I'd like to present to you Chrysalis, a keyboard configurator GUI, with support for a number of keyboards people have been known to use for Steno (such as the Splitography or the Planck). It is built on top of the Kaleidoscope open source firmware. It allows you to configure the keyboard - mostly editing layers for now - without having to flash new firmware for every change. Once there's a suitable firmware on the board (and Chrysalis ships with one, and allows you to flash it), all layout editing can happen without the need to compile or flash anything, from the comfort of a graphical user interface. No need to edit code, no need to compile anything, it just works out of the box on all major platforms (Linux, OSX and Windows10).

The firmware Chrysalis ships with supports the GeminiPR protocol, by the way, and is closely modeled after the Splitography default layout, just on top of a different firmware. There are plans to port both the firmware and the GUI to Georgi and other boards too.

I hope some of you might find this interesting, or perhaps even useful!

PS: Even though I use Chrysalis daily, it's still in early stages of development. There will likely be bugs, which we're happy to fix.

Interesting, is there any support for additional configuration past keymaps?

For keyboards that support per-key RGB LEDs, one can also set up per-layer colormaps. There are plans to make it possible to set up macros too. What additional configuration did you have in mind?

What makes Georgi special is the on-board chording and the way it leverages that for QWERTY and other things. Wondering if that would be possible to do with this tool

You mean the Q+Z=A stuff? That's something Chrysalis can't do yet. The underlying firmware can, but the functionality isn't exposed yet.

Hm, looks like more software to write :(
