Where have all the writers gone?

In response to the pinned message on top, I'll take a stab at answering this question.

Nowhere

We are still here. We are looking on. We are forming our thoughts and beliefs into words in hopes we can easily help everyone understand what we believe and where we come from.

But that isn't what people want anymore.

Late night TV has become a one note music piece, memes are all people want on Reddit, debate on topics is replaced by "you either agree with me or you're (insert shutdown word here)"

Maybe Jay Leno is right there is no civility left in our discourse.

Recently I stumbled on r/negativewithgold where the link was to a trans person arguing that if a straight male isn't attracted to a transwoman that straight male is a transphobe. She then went on to say someone who is white that isn't attracted to black women is racist. I'm amazed by this rationale.

As much as I applaud the younger generation for being inclusive many of their beliefs are down right militant. It's not live and let live, it's live how I say or be hunted down, shamed and ridiculed.

One of the greatest things the first amendment gives us is the freedom to express ourselves freely. I think back on some of my favorite comedians. Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Rodney Dangerfield even Dave Chappelle catches flak these days. I think about shows that really pushed the envelope like All In the Family In the 70s or Married with Children and In Living Color did in the 90s. I sit back as I watch these shows on YouTube or Netflix and ask myself would anyone of these comedians or shows make it on Tv today? Would they be protested against and run off the air? Most likely and that should terrify everyone. It's our ability to laugh at things that takes power from those who do real harm. The three stooges, chaplin, the Marx brothers all made fun of Hitler. After 9/11 South Park episode was "Bin Laden has poopy pants". Today we can't point out the absurdities in life due to fear someone, somewhere will get butthurt over it. Apu has been run off the Simpsons because one person was so offended by his character he made a documentary about it slamming the character. Is Groundskeeper Willy next? I do not believe any Scotsman will ever be offended by something that ridiculous.

So where have all the writers gone? They've quit. Late TV doesn't need them. They have monkeys banging away on keyboards typing TRUMP for every punchline. That still seems to get laughs.

How about political writers? They've all gone too. Liberal writers only seem to want people speaking from a feminist or minority point of view and while giving voice to the voiceless is noble and needed doing so in a way that pushes others out of the discussion only serves to push them to the other side.

I keep hearing if you're a poor white person you should welcome this as these people are your ally well why should I want an ally that doesn't respect or want me to have an opinion? Thats not making me an ally that's making me a slave. Trot me out, let me do a little wave and maybe dance or sing a tune then sit in the corner and shut up.

That's where the writers have gone. We are sitting in the corner watching this circus of chicanery devolve into a true shitshow.

My generation (born late 70s - early 80s) gets alot of shit about how things are now and when we do open up out come the pitchforks and torches. Many I see have become the very things they claim to hate and be against. I really don't see much difference ideologically with 1690 puritans burning witches at the stake and modern day extremist punishing those for wrong think.

Liberals use to be about free love with consenting adults, free speech, free expression, opposition to ALL dogmatic and regressive religion and I just don't see that anymore.

Hard truths cut both ways, and we have to be able to tell the hard truths about ourselves or the other side certainly will.

So where are the writers? We are here but you don't want us so send in the clowns
