We're soooo close to getting back to the real story! Power through!

I just... don't care. :(

I don't really have the time to do any extra reading or research on Waterloo to make this section interesting. I don't remember half of the names when they come up, or the locations. It's information overload, honestly.

Small chapters keep saving this for me, it's like Victor Hugo knew very well that this is boring. 

Anyway,  it's coming to my mind that one point being made in this big war derail until now is the factor randomness in the outcome of things - big scale; and in small scale we've seen the car smashing the man that took Valjean to show his strength and made Javert suspicious and the accidents in the way to court that happened to Jean Valjean, etc.

I like that the battle was influenced by the common man — having Napoleon misdirect his troop into the sunken road, and guiding Bülow to the road he needed to take to reach the fight in time 

1.) What comments do you have about the characters and story in this chapter? How do you view the characters' actions and their thoughts? Did the characters grow/change, was something out of character etc.?

2.) What are your thoughts about the author's craft (and/or translator's craft) in this chapter? Which line did you enjoy the most and which the least and why did you like/dislike this specific line? Were there any literary devices that stood out to you or descriptions of people, clothing, scenery etc. that were of interest to you?

Final Line:
Planchenoit was in flames, and the Prussian cannonballs began to rain down as far as the rows of the reserve guard behind Napoleon.
