Why do people hate Nickelback so much?
I'm not a fan of Nickelback and have made fun of the faux alternative rock singer voice that came up in last 10 years. I think they suck but I think a lot of music sucks. With hating them though, it's like a movement. I'm kind of fascinated by it.
What is the deep seeded reason that people hate the band? Why are they even famous? What do they represent in pop culture?

They've become the poster child for the mainstream pop industry which churns out bland average artists with average musical ability, but high marketability.
This image is hated by any number of different groups - those with different musical genre tastes, those who have more complex or sophisticated taste in music and those who are just on the bandwagon.
They are a strawman, held up to be ridiculed, attacked and hated, as the most average of all the average.
To add, hating Nickelback in itself has become mainstream, I've met people who say it and don't even know why.
