Moving to the Area! Would love some tips/advice about potential neighborhoods to move to!

Hello friends. I got a new job in the Loudonville area and will be moving up in the next few months. I know absolutely nothing about the area. I am coming from the Philadelphia area.

I know that Philadelphia is much larger than Albany, but I am wondering what the city is like. I also did road trip up to SPAC for a concert a few years back and absolutely loved Saratoga.

Some helpful criteria: I'm in my early 30s, single, enjoy biking and the outdoors. I like to explore new restaurants/breweries/shops/parks. Public transportation or being able to walk places are a plus. I'd love to be in an area that's "happening" so to speak.

Also, someone had suggested moving to an area that pays month to month or has a short lease so I can possibly experiment between different areas (Downtown Albany v Saratoga) or neighborhoods.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated and welcome! Thank you!

I think you'd fit in around Center Square. But also an FYI - there's one of these posts just about every other day. Do a quick search and you'll find a ton of suggestions and thoughts on other threads as well.

Ive lived on Clinton Ave for 3 years. Its nice, safe, and cheap if you dont mind living near black.and dominican people.

The commute to Saratoga from Albany/loudonville is pretty taxing. I’d check out areas south of the city like Delmar and glenmont if you’re looking for suburbs with nice biking options. The majority of the capital regions traffic is state workers commuting into and out of Albany from towns north of the city.

Best options are Center Square, Park South, and the more eastern areas of Pine Hills (slightly less walkable than the previous 2, but still good)

Center Square gives you access to all the best bus routes with most destinations within walking distance. That's where I live and I use my car maybe once a month now, besides alternating sides of the street for parking.

Being in Saratoga would be great but the commute would be difficult. At least it would be for me. Give it a try, though.
