Is there a place for ARM server with existing 24/7 X86

Discussion

I'm looking some opinions on a setup reconfigure, surrounding my two current 24/7 boxes.

Current Setup:

HC2 - 3TB HDD - 2GB RAM

  • NAS
  • LXD Host (PiHole, DBs, Wiki, EM, etc)

X86 Storage - 2x8, 4x1 TB HDD - 16GB RAM (Can go to 32GB with a 2nd CPU)

  • Bulk Storage
  • LXD Host (MC, IPA, Plex)

Both of these are running 24/7, I am considering moving the 3TB drive to the storage server and consolidating my storage. I will probably do this anyway. This leaves me with the HC2 empty.

I'm considering a SSD for the HC2 to give the LXD containers a decent disk to work with. Or alternatively stick an SSD in the Storage server and just run X86 LXD there. The X86 would be easier I'm just wondering if there is still a place for my ARM box as it has kinda been superseded by the Storage box.

One potential use I have got it for it to be a low power offsite backup at my parents (once I get moved into my own place that is). Or maybe to run my 3D printer off so I can store video without knackering an SD card.

I'm really looking for any decent suggestions as to why it may be better to run off an ARM compared to it all on the X86 box. I'm open to any suggestions :) Thanks in advance.
