Imagine if last year, straight after winning a flag, the tigers lost cotchin and rance to expansion clubs then the following year riewoldt left to goto one too... This is pretty much what is happening. Considering how much of a part we have played in getting this league up and running we are being treated like dog shit. Not that I would expect anything different from the AFL but pretty fucking disappointing.
I'm disappointed in Katie here, given she has been the captain and such an integral part of the club over these last three years. That said, I don't think she's ever been our most valuable player, and with Huntington recovered from injury, hopefully her loss won't be felt that greatly. We all know the AFL have massively fucked up their management of this league and creating this merry-go-round of players starts to give the AFLW an A-League feel, which is something they should've been looking to avoid at all costs.
Ever since she spat the dummy about her suspension and cried sexism and went to the Human Rights Commission I thought she was a bit of a goose.

I'm absolutely gutted :(
Hannah Scott too.
Bitter.
Yeah... Whatever.
Im more convinced than ever that AFLW will never get the following it needs for long term success... club mobility is great for artificially raising player salaries, but you can't expect fans to demonstrate any commitment or loyalty if the players they are c aslled to support are jumping ship every few years.
Good riddance.
The NHL's expansion draft policy is basically that every pre-existing team can protect 6 forwards, 2 defenders and 1 goalie. The rest of your team - depending on Movement Clauses in contracts - are free to go.
The AFLW, and the wider AFL, have seen completely fit that "lmao whatever, let's make it a free for all even though these teams have spend the last 3 years building their team" (or, in our case, about 5 or 6 years considering we and Melbourne were playing exhibition games before the AFLW even existed). Because I assume in Gil's mind once the dust has settled and we've got a full competition, it'll be all good. Nobody will remember THIS kind of stuff once we have a full competition.
It's just fucking mind-bending watch them make decisions in real time. Conferences that were barely thought out, and a drafting system that sees pre-existing clubs get shelled out for no compensation. Hell even if we got a late first round draft pick here or there - but no. Just gotta get to that full competition status as fast as possible, and be damned any fan who loses interest because they're too scared to get close to a team who's captain might fuck off for newer pastures the second they become available.
And yeah fuck Katie Brennan too - we pushed her to the front of the club and made her the face of our team for the last 6 years. Hell 2015 exhibition games were billed Katie Brennan's Bulldogs vs. Daisy Pearce's Demons. Massive disappointment across the board. I support the AFLW with all my heart, but this whole situation can get fucked five different ways.
Edit: Stick the captaincy on Conti and teach every midfielder how to tackle like a machine and let's become the early prototype of "mean football". AFLW needs to go through the same movement 1980s AFL did, let's just tackle every
Edit 2: I was so angry this morning I didn't even finish that thought. I'm still mad. This sucks. I like Katie Brennan :(
Hima, your righteous fury gives me life
See what troubles me is when you say "once we have a full competition". I'm not convinced the AFL wants it to succeed. We had an 8-round season, attendances massively surpassed expectation. Second year, another 8-round season, and the ***Grand Final was on the same fucking day as the AFLX they were promoting the crap out of***. THEN, they bring in two new clubs *and* shorten the already brief season by two weeks??
Really stinks of "Well gee whiz, we gave it a solid go for a few years, and it didn't really work. Now these women can stop asking for a competition and we can go back to letting Channel 7 tell us what to do".
don't get me started on the shit shows that were 'conferences'....
