So frustrated and fed up
I have several kids in detention with me this week for a variety of reasons, skipping class, skipping previous detentions, defiance, refusal to do work, etc. I have detentions every day this week. It's the week before our town's music festival and I have two ensembles performing, and I want to be spending all of my extra time with them. Normally I don't mind keeping kids in, talking with them about their behaviour, doing restorative justice, holding them accountable and all that...but it's really getting to me right now. I'm really annoyed because these behaviours are taking me away from being able to help my ensemble kids as best as I can - they've asked for help, they work hard and I want to support them as much as possible. Sure I can help them when the kids sit in detention, but I feel like I'm cheating both groups of kids if I do that. The ensemble kids get self conscious cause suddenly they have an audience, and the detention kids and I don't get to talk. Just needed to vent, but any advice is appreciated, especially for what I can get my detention kids to do while my ensembles are practicing.
