Mechatronics vs Software

The stream selection is now open and I still haven't made up my mind. I want to hear from upper year students in those streams. Tell me the good, the bad, the ugly. How much free time do you realistically get per week assuming you are productive while studying? Are there alot of assignments or just alot of studying for the midterms/exams? How good are the profs and how hard are the labs/tutorials? And what's your overall opinion of your stream, do you regret your choice or not? Any help is appreciated, the more detailed your answer is the better!
