People should make more of an effort to look nice when they go out in public. We are getting too sloppy.
Look at a picture from the 1950s or 60s and you'll see men in suits and women in nice dresses and hats. They would dress that way to go to ball games. Men would shave every day, get their hair cut every 2 weeks, shine their shoes, etc.
Nowadays people often are complete slobs out in public. I'm not saying that you need to break out the formal wear to go to Walmart but you shouldn't look like you just rolled out of bed, either. Put a better foot forward than sweats and a ratty cut-off when you are out in public. At least put on jeans and run a comb through your hair.
Why do I care? The broken windows theory. When everyone made more of an effort to look nice in public I think we had more pride in ourselves as a society. Casual is one thing, sloppy is another.
TL;DR. We used to be way better dressed and took better care of appearances and we were better off for it as a society.
