M4F - Against All Odds
I met you under the bleachers at a high school football game when we were 15 years old. From that point until graduation we were inseparable. Even after graduation we spent a summer in each other’s arms shedding tears as we knew that I was off to play division 1 baseball at a college on the west coast and you were off on an academic scholarship at a prestigious school on the east coast. Our parents were adamant that young love was not going to stop us both from pursuing are dreams and they didn’t. But as to be expected those dreams began to fade.
We have been out of college now for about 5 years. You worked in New York City and were putting in long hours. Your fiancé worked even longer hours and your life was rewarding but stressful. As such he finally agreed to take you on that trip that both of you wanted to take to Hawaii. You were excited to relax and enjoy the break. You couldn’t believe it was actually happening.
I was already there. I had just broken off my engagement because I knew I didn’t love her. I mean of course I loved her... but I didn’t love her as much as I could have. I didn’t love her completely and fully and unconditionally. Like I once loved you. I couldn’t tell anyone that because it was high school but your memory was with me all through college and you e been on my mind since. I knew from friends that you were engaged and the last thing I wanted to do was ruin that for you.
The trip wasn’t refundable so I took my friends advice and went anyway. Alone. I figured a lot of time in a hammock on the waves was exactly what I needed and it was all inclusive so I should be able to stay nice and drunk and forget that I was going back to start all over. I figured I would just throw myself back into baseball and hope to make the majors within a year or two. It was all I had left.
The first night as I was sitting on the balcony I saw you walking with your fiancé holding hands along the beach in front of our hotel. Fantastic... as I’d this trip couldn’t get any worse.
Make it better for me. And let’s end up back together. Against all odds.
