Solo-ed today! yay. More Qs.
Oddly enough I greased my landings with the CFI on board but was low, and left of centerline when flying solo. I think it's a psychological thing.
- Does the stall horn go off 10-15 Mph above stall speed in all small aircraft?
In our DA-20s the stall warning horn sounds 10-15mph above stall speed. This sometimes leads to me nudging in some power and breaking my stabilized decent, which leads to poor landings. When it's gusty this is especially noticeable. ^((to me)) At take-off rotation the horn sometimes sounds as well so I stay on the ground till 10-15 above V^(r,) it still sometimes sounds. >,<
- At an uncontrolled airport in class E, are there any rules as to how far I can extend my downwind or base?
I was taught to start a descent when the 1,000 footers are 90°s to me, GUMPS, when below 100 knots flaps (T/O) then turn base when the runway is at a 45° angle to me, straight in on final, full flaps once runway is assured and flare in ground effect..
But I'm wondering- if I extend my downwind will I have more time to align for landing and thus will be able to better practice my landings?
- I've heard my CFI say "wind check" to ATC. What else can I ask ATC? There's that famous Speed check request.. Can I ask for a speed check or altitude check?
- What does Left Closed Traffic mean, is there a Left Open Traffic?
Can I just say "Left Traffic Runway 21"?
- Recommend any books for new pilots?
I think there's one about the first 1200 hours wherein most accidents happen?
- Any tips for prepping for the PPL oral?
