The State Of Assassin's Creed
With Origins and Odyssey released and the supposed confirmation of the next title in 2020, there is a divide between "fans" of the franchise. It seems most players that were done with these games or never payed them much mind before love the most recent titles. The dialogue options, barrage of loot drops, and grind-y RPG elements remind them of other games that they love like The Witcher 3 or Destiny.
However, there's a smaller contingent of fans that see these in-game systems in a different light. There's a case forming that the newer aspects of AC aren't improving upon what made previous entries great. Many feel as if these are merely being introduced in order to capitalize on current trends.
I think there could be a happy medium between both. To me, it's simple: Less grind. Less meaningless loot. More stealth.
I don't feel the "player freedom" being touted when it seems I'm being actively discouraged to play the way I want. The level-walling of missions and the ineffectiveness of weapons against higher level enemies need to go.
Also, this level of MTX in single-player games are astounding and gross to me, but that's a different discussion.
Do you like the changes to the latest iterations of Assassin's Creed? Is there an attainable balance between old games and new?
