Tomorrow I take the plunge!

Build Help

Just seeing if you guys would do something different for a $3kish gaming build. I already have the case, power supply, kb + m, and a 27” 1440p 144hz monitor. Goal is to put together a system that can handle 1440p at 60+FPS easy. Let me know!

That’s pretty expensive for a case. But hey if you like it go for it.

Friend gave me the case and psu already!

Can I be their friend too? Could use a new case and psu 😅

Haha 1440p 60+ fps... 9900k and 2080ti will do 4K at 80 FPS. So if that 1440p/60 your floor your way over spending. In the vast majority of games you’ll be bouncing off that 144hz cap of your monitor, so I think your good.

Cool. Ideally I want to run games at 144hz of course. I just wanted to make sure everything outside the obvious overkill cpu and gpu were good choices.

I mean the Crucial p1 is QLC nand so on extended writes you’ll hit a performance wall, but it’s the best priced nvme on the market so you can’t really complain. I’d say 32Gb or ram is overkill too for just gaming, but if you have any workstation loads you’ll be happy to have it. I’d say it’s about 9.7/10 build. About the only improvements would be an over the top $500 mobo and all Samsung drives. Which are in no way necessary unless you’ve got a fat stack of cash to spend.

Edit: I’ll say 9.8/10. The mobo you have is pretty much second only to the MSI MEG, which is the $500 mobo.

I figured I wouldn’t get much more out of a crazy mobo and Samsung drives to justify that jump. I plan on doing some workstation stuff, and that p1 would really just be a windows boot and some other utilities.

I’d leave your games on it too. I have my main games on my 500gb 970 boot, and my others on my 1Tb 860. If I could do it all again today though, that P1 or intel 660p (near identical drives and prices) would be my choice of boot drives. Crazy what just 6 months can do!
