When you really need a male heir to continue your dynasty

R5: Out of my 10 children the only boy got sick and died. I did end up getting an heir, but only just in time as I died when he was just 1 year old.
And did the kid survive, or did he end up being murdered? Plus, 15 years of crippling regency. Awful.
Shouldn't have killed that brother.
The kid survived, we ended the session just after he turned 16. I probably shouldn't have killed my brother, but it seemed like it was a good idea at the time as I was young and had an heir and four wives and I would get some land back (he made an emirate himself, my mistake, and he was no longer my vassal).
And don't think gender equality will get you out of that one as I did. You will have dozens of wonderful female heirs in the first generation and then you'll suddenly be out of matrilinear marriage material 15 years later, watching your beautiful, strong female chiefs fighting for that one bastard son of yours to marry their daughter.
And no, they don't want that horselord son with the great stats, even you try to playcheat them into it. They'll break off every betrothal, stop any marriage. I fear they saw what became of Khal Drogo.
They want that bastard cousin who is known in my headcannon only as "the lip", guess why.
My friend, I played as Enatic clans and had 7 sons before my first daughter who died of cancer at 10. I had to marry my sons to my brother's daughters because all my sisters died. It was stressful.
Meanwhile in the opposite world.
I had to marry my sons to my brother's daughters because all my sisters died.
I love how marrying them with someone out of your dynasty was never a choice, not even with some low-born characters, or landless women.
They were in line to inherit but not of my dynasty. Marrying them to my sons got them to my court so I could kill them easier to ensure dynastic succession.
Just go for Seduction focus
Muslims can't legitimize bastards.
It gives you fertility bonus
Family does too.
And Family gives you health also I think.
Getting children was not the problem, getting male ones was. I did end up going for seduction when I was able to change again though.
Yeah but only solution here is getting even more children
Wow, you can build a family friendly harem for your successor
I know the feeling. I had a nice bloodline going with my Hausa, with both the base enatic-cognatic bloodline and a nice castle-building bloodline... at which point the Plague swept in, killed my entire family after I was past childbearing age, and promptly left the only people with my builder bloodline stranded in Tibet and later mauled to death by bears before they could actually have a child in a matrilineal marriage.
Le sigh.
And this is why we stash our heirs in Iceland. I deliberately make my favorite heirs Icelandic nobility for this reason. No plagues in Iceland!
Imagine spending your your entire sorry life in Iceland expecting to inherit the greatest empire in the world only to get passed over at the last second in favor of you attractive nephew.
How many Male relatives did you kill before this point?
Just my brother, at that point I still had an heir and 4 wives so I thought it would work out. The only other male relative was my dad and he's obviously also dead.
Yeah, see, this is why you don't have your brothers whacked until AFTER you've produced at least two possible heirs. And honestly, I'd have made him Baron of Bumfuckia just to be safe. You know, that shitty castle you just conquered which is going to produce jack shit for troops for the next like 30 years? That can be his. Have at it, bro.
So this is only your second character?
Yeah. First character was the only member of his dynasty at the start, we're only like 40 years into the game.
Is this a moment to link had sex?
Considering the chances of seven consecutive daughters are not even a whole percent I think a higher power is ending this playtrough.
Has the stressed trait, checks out.
I've never NOT gotten the stressed trait. No matter what you do to get rid of it, it just keeps coming back. At this point when I use the ruler designer, I just start with it for the free points, you're just gonna get it within the first 5 minutes of play anyway no matter what.
I've had a suprising number of rulers lose stressed because of their wife recently. One dude was stressed and depressed for most of 30 years only to lose both within a span of weeks only a month before my heir came of age.
Oh, they lose it all the time. I lose it, for instance, when commiting my ruler's favorite activity, which is apparently murder, only to gain it back immediately after, for whatever crazy reason or another. A few murders later and it goes away, only to then immediately become stressed and depressed again. I swear my rulers are only ever content when murdering the fuck out of everything. They get in a fight and they're like "FOR THE EMPIRE! Yeah, my life has meaning again!".
Then the battle ends, and they're stressed and depressed again until they commit more murdering. I guess it's true what they say: You can't have slaughter without laughter.
Know that feel. I had an amazing Norse run and I had no son, although I had 3 concubines. I didn't care much, since my heir was a genius attractive shield maiden, but I lived too long, so no one voted for her. And so my badass daughter wasn't even my heir and I got to continue as a realm about 1/20 size of my previous empire. Uncool.
This is whymyou NEED to marry you children amd give them landed titles

Oh man, a king tier leige is your heir? Do not accept any invitations to go “hunting”
Simply solution - stop being a Muslim, and pick a religion where women can inherit.
Simply solution - stop being a Muslim, and pick a religion where your liege will immediately revoke your titles
That really depends. If your liege likes you well enough, you can play a different religion vassal without losing titles. I've played Misaphysite Egypt under the Abbasids without having titles revoked, sometimes for in-game decades.
I guess. I've just had enough bad experiences as reformed Zunist under the Byzantines that I just give a big NOPE to the whole thing.
I've had bad experiences too; I find that trying to get on your liege's good side before changing religion helps.
Muslims are more tolerant of infidels because they get more money from them, whereas Byzzies don't, so want you out.
Besides, if you're the Duke of something, Iqta rulers can yank duchies anytime they want anyway. Become a King quickly before they get any ideas.
Then again, does it really matter? If he tries that, he'll just get overthrown in favor of a more pliant heir. A liege is mostly just a threat shield, that makes it impossible for people to defensive pact against you. It's not like he's in charge or anything. He needs to learn who wears the pants around here: Talk shit, get hit.
That's the point at which he gets overthrown. My threat shield doesn't get to talk shit unless he wants to get hit.
That moment when you're playing nomads so your threat shield decides to quit being khagan... And you have the most prestige...
I've fought wars to uphold a Khagan that that the other clans wanted out before, because otherwise they'd make ME Khagan, so I'd go forth and attack them to make sure that the Khagan would win.

Have you heard about our patron Saint Henry VIII? Our main prayer is : Divorce, beheaded, Die, Divorce, Beheaded, Survive. Amen.
I did divorce twice, but I can have four wives so it was not that urgent.
Thy name was Henry the Eighth, and thou had six sorry wives. Some say you ruined their lives, but lo, your faithful clergy here understand your pains for that one goddamn heir.
Incoming that one female heir who turns out to be a badass and the best ruler you've ever had! xD
Still useless if you're Islamic
Not entirely, but you REALLY have to work at it to get any utility out of females as Islamic.
Honestly, by the end, I'm surprised he didn't get 5 peasant women, fucking all of them till one gives a boy and then marry her.
It's not like his marriages had much legitmacy by that point anyway.
