Coolant Temp Sensor GM 3100 V6 95 Olds Cutlass Supreme

As I was installing the new CTS, I noticed it was pretty difficult to screw in even with my ratchet. Matter of fact after I got it in about 3/4 of the way I couldn't turn it further and there were still threads on the CTS out. Is that normal? I purchased a Value Craft CTS from AutoZone and have read elsewhere that the VC brand CTS didn't fit certain GM 3100s.

I had to loosen the throttle body to move it a bit so I had working room. After I put the air filter house and duct back on, plugged in all the harnesses, tightened the TB back up, I started the engine. It's now idling at about 2500 RPMs and the cooling fans still wont come on.

What am I missing? Is it possible the CTS is the wrong one for my vehicle? If it's not fitting properly is that why my engine is idling high?
