All three opponents won the fight from fight standpoint.

Khabib won the battle, but the opponents are winning the war.

Khabib won the skirmish, the opponents won the battle, but the war continues.

I don’t think anyone is going to beat Khabib at lightweight. Not even Tony.

63
iamkingofkings123•

Still my most anticipated fight and I hope it's competitive if we see it...but that said I agree, I don't see khabib losing.

I think Tony would do better than most but Khabib is something different

If there’s anything Tony is, it’s different

I'm still bummed Dustin might get the shot before Tony. I would be so thrilled if Dustin drops out a week before the Khabib fight only for Tony to drop down from the ceiling to take Dustin's place.

Backdoor_BenUnited States•

I don’t think Tony is ever going to get a shot. As much as we like him here I think his personality is to weird for UFC to want push and at lightweight there is no shortage of talent to throw at khabib. Khabib will fight 1 time a year. And tony will keep getting promised 1 contender fights until he starts losing.

-1†
mokopoTeam - I don't give a fuck either!•

That sounds ridiculous. Tony is the right amount of weird (in the best way possible) because we all know if there is something fighters in the UFC need is something that distinguishes them from everyone else. Yeah Tony might not be for the 'casual' crowd, but he can be marketed as one of the best (which he is) and a truly worthy opponent for the unbeaten Khabib. I just hope Tony gets his shot because he deserves it more than anyone.

Khabib via triangle choke

Before I watched, I was wondering why he would be at the bottom, I thought he got taken down. It turns out he was on top transitioning into a triangle.

Same chain of submissions, too. Armbar into triangle.

32

also mounted triangles are a thing

right, I completely forgot about that and remembered after watching.

Question: Why does Khabib rarely come up when people debate GOAT status? Always seems to be GSP, Jones, Silva that get talked about but never Khabib.

Khabib is 11-0 champ in a division where it's a miracle to even keep a 5 fight win streak. Max fucking Holloway is 0-1 at lightweight. RDA, Michael Johnson, Barboza, Iaquinta, Conor. Anyone at 155 that has a one over one of these guys has a loss to another, and I'm talking the elite of the elite. And Khabib beat them all. His resume is GOAT 155 by a mile. He's only 2-3 fights from being P4P GOAT.

24
TantricLasagne•

By a mile? Tony has a very similar resume.

10
AngryCarGuy•

And Tony is much more well rounded.

Though we did see khabib stand and bang, and land an overhand on one of the most slippery strikers in 155...

I really want to see that fight. My money is on khabib, but damn that's gonna be one hell of a night for both of them.

I don't know how you read hostility in this. I agree with the point about title defenses. But Khabib's always been associated with "not fighting anybody good" and to feel it kinda persisted to this day is kind of ridiculous. The dude's been unscratched dominating everyone in a division where you lose years off your life every fight. Feels like he's not given his due resume wise, but it's okay cause I feel like it's gonna come in two or three fights.

14
thrasher_jakeYou talk like stupid guy•

Resume isn’t good enough yet

13
TantricLasagne•

GSP, Jones and Silva all have at least 8 consecutive title defenses.

6
murufus•

He only has 1 defense as of now and has only fought 3 of the current top 15 LW's

Those 3 guys all have some of the most defenses and longest reigns and gsp was a two division champ who avenged both of his losses

If Khabib racks up another 3/4 wins I think we'll start to see a lot more people call him a potential GOAT and if he breaks andersons win streak and becomes a champ in another division he'll have an extremely good case

  • Forgot to clarify I meant current top 15 LW's

5 top lightweights.

Dos Anjos #5

MJ #6

Conor #1

Iaquinta #11

Barboza #4

Wrong pat healy #I0 even tibau was ranked in top 15 that time so that’s 7 top lightweights khabib has defeated and that guy is claiming khabib has only fought 3 top 15 wtf check facts and then write bullshit

I couldn’t easily find ranks for these guys but definitely knew that 3 is just too low.

I meant to say the current top 15 and my point was as a champion, there are a lot of matchups for Khabib to get through to cement his status as an all-time great.

You're delusional if you think 31-24 Pat Healy who got his #10 rank off of Jim Miller (which was overturned) and has won 5/13 of his last fights and never won a ufc fight again after losing to Khabib and went on to suffer 3 first round knockouts in small organizations is anywhere near as impressive or important to Khabib's legacy as beating current #10, 4x Div 1 NCAA champ and undefeated Gregor Gillespie who would be the best wrestler Khabib has faced by a country mile ..

Also there's a very strong argument that Khabib didn't even beat Tibau (who he couldn't take down even once)

-10
murufus•

I meant current LW's

MJ and RDA are great wins and I wasn't trying to take away from those, just pointing out there are lots of matchups left for him

This is a pretty interesting website. Takes into consideration a lot of different factors and uses some sort of formula to build the list. Interesting that they have Poirier ranked higher than Khabib. I think it speaks to what others have said in that Khabib hasn't quite fought the level of competition that other fighters have...yet. The toughest part of his career is ahead.

ZekicThunion•

I am a huge Khabib fan, but one could argue he never even defended his title if you consider Connor the lineal champion. Other GOAT contenders have long dominating streaks as champions.

Also other GOAT contenders were/are viewed as untouchables because they cleaned up their divisions. Khabib still got plenty of opponents to challenge him currently Porier and Tony being 2 more then legit contenders. Kevin Lee, Justin Gaetheje, Cowboy and Iaquinta all could be n1 contenders in any other division and are 1 big win away from being title contender here.

So for me Khabib could easily have 4 fights in 1 year and all would be legit contenders, that's why it's hard to call him GOAT, but he probably is a lightweight GOAT or at least 1 win away from being one.

Pm-me-gift-cardzBisping by KO. Rd 2.•

Honest answer is because guys now are winning 10 fights in a row without title shots. Fighters are holding out defending for more money and taking money fights in general. Look at Holloway, he has just as many top 10 FW wins as Aldo, with a streak spanning 13 wins but only 2 defenses. Tony too, and Khabib only has 1 defense with 11 consecutive UFC wins. Even though the merit is there, they fly under the radar more. Even tobhardcore fans it's a hard sell that Khabib is an equally proven and dominant talent compared to guys like Jones, GSP, Aldo, Silva, and he did it without any losses at all.

Injuries and general inactivity also play a factor as well.

1
blackupsilon•

He needs more title defenses. Right now even bj Penn has more

0†
RastaPasta92•

Title defences would matter if the UFC was legitimately run like a sport which it isn't.. e.g. Idgaf if Bisping has more title defences; it doesn't mean shit, he's not better p4p.. we're not robots & things need to be looked into w/ more depth & context.

1
nocomment3030Champ Shit Only 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽 #SnapJitsu•

His body of work is amazing. His biggest problem now is inactivity. He hasn't been able to maintain momentum in his career, between injuries, Ramadan, tiramasu, and stomping on Danis. Depending how the next 2 years go, he may get into GOAT discussion though.

-2
sercus97•

He needs much more time. As it stands now he isn't even top 15 best of all time. He would need at least 5 defenses to make top 5 in my opinion.

-7
mdmamazing1•

Its like he was about to attempt another (probably failed) armbar with the 3rd guy and said fuck it i'll save time and go straight to the triangle

ref didnt stop the fight when he got choked out, so khabib choked him again

19
Batman-and-Hobbes3 piece with the soda•

I think Khabib choked that second dude unconscious, then let go of the triangle, then he got up and kept fighting so Khabib put him back in The triangle. 4 triangle choke victories in 3 fights.

6
GroovyswanScotland•

Interesting, all three triangles started with arm bar setups

5
smoke-billowingConor McNever•

I know that everyone praises Khabib's wrestling, but he really is one of the most well rounded fighters i think we've ever seen. Having a strong foundation in wrestling just means he gets to choose where the fight takes place. He's a seriously scary motherfucker.

3

yea people seriously underestimate him on his feet, the dude is slippery as fuck barely ever gets hit and when he does he just walks it off without fucking flintching... what a monster
