What's stopping a group of people from making an oldschool OKC type of site?
It's obvious a market exists, so what are the blockers?

I would also posit that it is not obvious that a market exists. You might see a few people complain here about it, but if it isn’t enough to saturate dating for most users, there isn’t a market.
Yep despite what grad students might think r/OkCupid is not a good sample selection.
it is exorbitantly expensive to create and maintain a website like that and it doesn’t really make sense from a financial standpoint when realistically, the market that exists for a site like how okcupid used to be is much smaller than the market for swipe apps.
This is like asking "why doesn't someone just make google.com without all the tracking?"
Answer: it's really hard and you'll probably fail.
What part of "oldschool OKC"? More focused on the questions, tests, and other details or more focused on the social networky parts?
The former, Tinder didn't get to be the big player in the dating game by giving lots of information. People like being lazy. It may not be good for them in the long run, but good luck getting people to stop their bad habits.
If you want to make a social networking site with a dating overlay, first you're going to have to ask how you'll get a decent starting userbase to make it worth other people hopping onto. Then there are the moderation issues that even big boys like Facebook is having a tricky time with, and where affording a decent mod team without requiring significant user costs will be tricky at best.

We live in a capitalist society and there's less money in a useful dating site. If anyone did create one, the Match parent company would buy them up and ruin it as well.

YEAH all those communist dating apps sure are great :)
Money. Oversaturation of the dating app market in general.
It is very expensive and time consuming to do so. Also, the real feature of applications like OKC is the user base.
