New to steppers, why does my stepper motor run in the example sketch, but not my following one?

So basically I want the stepper motor to move a set number of steps once the trip int is 1 (So the very start of the loop), and then move back after a certain amount of time passes, those two parts should be easy, however, for some reason I don't know why, my stepper motor won't move at all, and the board won't even power up when I use this full sketch, but it works absolutely fine with no change in wiring or power source in the stepper demo.

Maybe the stepper demo to turn one rotation each direction isn't the best code to pull from to do what I need, but I feel like it should at least work.
