Non-Political YouTubers that aren't pieces of shit?
(Throwaway account in case this is a stupider question that I think it is)
We've all had it happen at least once before, you find a cool new YouTuber and you love their content only to binge watch a few more videos and learn that oops they're actually an awful person. Sometimes it's a gaming YouTuber who hates LGBTQ+ people, sometimes it's a makeup artist who's a huge racist, sometimes it's a vlogger who just has some really gross political views. It sucks because it's always great to find cool videos, but a lot of the time it's not exactly fun to click on a fitness related video only for the YouTuber to go on a weird homophobic and vaguely antisemitic rant
So I thought for a change of pace, it would be nice to make a post where we give credit to the YouTubers who don't make political content, but generally have good political views and you don't need to worry about being a shit stain the next time you click on one of their videos. Some examples of people I think are good for this are:
- Jenny Nicholson, who makes general media criticism videos but seems to be pretty left-leaning and regularly calls out anything bigoted in the works she's criticizing, she also generally seems to be considered part of BreadTube because of that and because of her video critiquing the book Trigger Warning. Bonus points because she seems to be good friends with many BreadTubers
- lilsimsie, a super non-political Sims YouTuber who literally just makes Sims videos and talks about her life, but is also super LGBTQ+ friendly and always tries to make an effort to make her channel inclusive and welcoming to others, she doesn't allow any discriminatory bullshit to happen in her comments and makes an effort to make the Sims community a better place. Her content also tends to be targeted towards younger people (which is why I haven't watched much of her in a few years) so it might not be the kind of stuff for everyone here, but she seems to be a nice person in terms of making her community a good place to be
- Mother's Basement, an anime YouTuber I haven't seen too much of, but he makes fun stuff from what I've seen and he also seems to be pretty quick to shut down any bigoted shit that goes on in the anime community on twitter, which is always nice to see
I don't know. I guess that sometimes when people think of "YouTubers that aren't pieces of shit" the first thing that will always come to mind are the political YouTubers who make exclusively political videos, so I thought it would be nice to give credit to the other YouTubers out there that aren't political but still seem to be good people, if you know what I mean. Are there any other YouTubers you can think of that fall into a similar category?
Edit: Alright so first of all, thank you to everyone for your recommendations! I'm totally gonna check out a bunch when I have time, I'd like to say I'd get to all of them but I got way more comments on this than I thought I would.
But more important of an edit I want to make, I'm just just going to clarify things. Like I said at the beginning of this post, I made this post on a throwaway account because I legit thought it would be a stupid post and that I'd maybe get one or two recommendations and maybe a few people calling me stupid; I wasn't careful with my wording so I just assumed it would only get seen by a handful of regular users here, I didn't imagine it would get seen by people from outside of this sub. So to clarify what I meant by non-political videos: This is a sub dedicated to political videos, so I was specifically seeking out people whose content isn't political (things like gaming, makeup, fitness, whatever) but that I don't need to worry about tuning into a video where I hear some extreme racism or homophobia or whatever. That's all I wanted. I'm not opposed to political content (otherwise I wouldn't be on a political sub) and I'm not opposed to seeing things I disagree with, it's just that in my downtime when I sit down to watch a fitness video, I don't like when it ends up turning into a rant by the host where he says he'd disown his son (his real son, not a hypothetical one) if he was gay. If you're into that sort of thing or you just have a higher tolerance for it than me then that's up to you and I can respect that, but I like to use my spare time productively on things I enjoy and I'm not going to sit through things that I know aren't going to be enjoyable for me (for the same reason you'd probably skip your favorite video game YouTuber's video about makeup if you're not into makeup.) Again, sorry for any unclear wording about what I meant with non-political content.
