Night of Knives feels "mundane"?
After finishing Midnight Tides, a book filled with the alien cultures of the Edur and Letherii(my least favorite book in the series so far) I've started to read Night of Knives, and even though I've only just finished the first chapter it feels very "mundane" compared to the rest of the series, both because of the lack of non-human races for the most part and the general smaller scale of the fantasy. Maybe Esslemont's writing isn't as dense as Erikson, which may be a relief for some other readers, but, as someone who loves Malazan for the worldbuilding primarily, I'm already a lot less immersed in this tale as I was even in Midnight Tides, and I'm not sure whether to continue or not. Does the book get better or am I just not vibing with Esslemont's writing style?
