Transforming research findings into art

A slightly different topic than what is normally posted here, but I hope to find some input anyways.

At the institute I am working for, we want to create a sort of mini-exposition of the type of research we do (mainly demography, also some sociology) for the wider public. My task is to come up with some ideas. However, all I can think of are some pictures displaying different demography-related issues. But this idea seems rather boring to get people’s attention for our research. Does anyone have some experiences, ideas or examples on how to transform research findings into an interesting and engaging art project?

I hope this is the right place for my question.
