Nashville weather?

Help | Advice

Hi guys,

I’ve been to Nashville before a couple of times and I’m not here to ask about food/drink/sight seeing recommendations.

However, I am here to ask what the weather has been like lately. I have checked Nashville Severe Weather as well as The Weather Network and they seem to vary greatly from “you’re gonna drown” to “you might get a sprinkling of rain” so...

From the people of Nashville, has the weather been consistent? In that sense, I mean has the rain been going all morning, all afternoon, all evening sorta thing? Or does it rain for a little in the afternoon and then the sun comes back out?

We are going to be driving down from Toronto next week (May 8) and would love to have some input because I feel as though the weather apps and websites aren’t terribly reliable.

I realize that you guys might not be meteorologists, but getting perspective to how bad the rain has been/what to pack (umbrella, rain jacket?) would be fantastic.

Thank you a ton in advance.

It's been consistent, in the sense that it's constantly changing. I think you're safe from snow, but you could see anything from 50 F/grey/wet, to 90 F clear skies and heat wave, to a tornado outbreak that'll blow you back to Canada.

Probably the best website to check for our weather is https://www.nashvillesevereweather.com

...College of Dupont site

they've been updating the site for a few years, but if you click around and can get the info you want; it's a good portal. No ads and shit too

Thank you! I was looking at that website a few minutes ago and the weather seems to be all over the place. Seems to be a situation where the meteorologists are going “lol we’re just guessing at this point”

As long as we’re safe from snow, I don’t care! We had a brutal winter here this year with tons of freezing rain and thaw/freezing spells. The whole southern half of the province was ice...

You’re free from snow. But know if you find snow here it’s because you brought it. So make sure to stock up on milk bread sandwich materials too.

Honestly Prepare to deal with ambiguity. Bring a cardigan and an umbrella and you’ll be find.

If it snows in Nashville while I’m there please just feel free to shame me in public. I’ve had enough winter for the next 10 years.

Side note: does bagged milk count???

However you take your milk bread sandwiches is up to you. We don’t judge. Cause we’ll be locked in our own houses fretting away.

Two things will definitely not happen in Nashville in May.

  1. Johnny cash won't be playing any live shows.

  2. It won't snow.

The weather has been beautiful lately. It has rained a bit but to the point where I can’t remember what day it rained last if that makes sense. It’s been in the 80’s and sunny lately!

Oh, that’s great to hear! A little bit of rain won’t stop us from going out and doing things, but it’s always more fun when it’s warm and sunny.

Outside of the rain and killer tornadoes, this is always my favorite time of year weather wise in Nashville.

If you suffer from seasonal pollen allergies, however....our city is known for being one of the worst in the country as far as the pollen count goes.

Pack shorts. Maybe a rain jacket. But above all? A shit ton of tissues.

If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

Read over some of the responses. Here's my two cents:

The American south's weather fluctuates wildly, especially in April and May. Yes, it's probably going to be all over the place. Lucky for you, the swamp-ass-why-the-fuck-do-I-live-here humidity hasn't arrived yet and the spring has been incredibly nice compared to the last like decade's worth.

We are pretty much out of the rainy season and in May you can expect a couple of days here and there of strong/severe storms but otherwise, it should be sunny and hot. Unless we have a 80-100% chance of rain, you should expect just a couple pop up showers throughout the day, not a constant deluge.

NOAA.gov is the most accurate resource I've found for weather. Pair it with NashSevereWx's twitter and you'll be as prepared as the rest of us. Bring some sunscreen, shorts, and t-shirts.
