Straight-back vs metatarsal-traversing lacing

I have always had sandals that go straight back between the first and second metatarsal from the toe post (Xero amuri cloud, Bedrock cairn), but I just got a pair of Unshoes wokova feather, which has the strap from the toe post going back to the outside, and crossing the other metatarsals. I am finding that I like the support of the metatarsal crossing, but the strap is pulling out on my index toe in a pretty uncomfortable fashion.

Has anyone else had this experience? Other than that I absolutely love the feel of these sandals, and am hoping this is something I will just get used to, like I had to originally get used to a toe post. Thoughts on the two styles?

I've got a pair of Xero Genesis, and depending how you adjust the straps it can either go between the first two metatarsals, like you said, or way across them. I played back and forth, but eventually decided that I like it better when it crosses over. Ironically, I just ordered (but haven't yet received) a pair of Unshoe Feathers because it looks like they go more naturally in the direction I like better. We'll see. :-)

I say give it some time to see if your toe gets used to it. I know my toes usually need a couple days to adjust whenever I change the way the toe post is positioned. I also like how the strap feels when it crosses the metatarsals. However, my left foot always wants to slide off the outside of the footbed when I position the strap that way. For that reason, I keep the strap running straight back.
