Day 7
I officially had my last drink on April 30 - told myself that I was going to do a sober May. In the past 3 years I have maybe less than 20 days that I didn't have a drink. Most days, anywhere from a half-pint to a pint of vodka after work. On the weekends, pint to a fifth a day. Got to the point that I wasn't happy with myself anymore. Put on about 20 pounds (I'm naturally a skinny guy). Felt ashamed at the amount I was drinking. Would keep telling myself I could quit whenever...yet, when it was D-day to quit, find a reason not to (rough day at work, celebrating something, etc.) Each month I would go into the 1st saying no more, but at the end of the first day, a bottle would be empty.
I dont know why, but on April 30, something clicked. I cant keep doing this. Not to myself. Not to my wife. So since then I have not had a single drop (even though there's been plenty of opportunity). My wife doesn't know about any of this. So far, pretty pleased with the results. No huge side effects other than a minor headache and body ache. CBD gummies have helped with the anxiety. Resting HR has gone from 80 to 65 in 7 days. Sleeping better. Finally had some sober sex with the wife (it was a while since we've had sober sex, I got so used to using alcohol as a performance enhancer, and sometimes a performance de-enhancer if you get my drift) and it was amazing. I was nervous going into it that she'd notice something different and she did. Yeah, didn't last as long, but wow felt so much better and intense. Highly recommend!
I want to make it a full month before I commit to anything longer, gotta take it day by day. But very pleased with the results so far. Even though I haven't lost weight yet, I feel less bloated. Skin is starting to look better. The bags under my eyes are getting better.
