This is bugging me...

Right at April 1st (and really, I doubt this is some sort of prank), I went for a walk at night. I go up the road, turn around, come down the road, and hear... shrieking. Not screams, but actual, genuine (and I looked into it to make sure) monkey mad as hell shrieking noises coming from the woods. Near some houses.

I live in NC. In a suburb. Away from anything resembling a zoo, nearest which is something like 40 miles away. Oh, and it gets weirder. My first impression (I worked in an animal shelter) was "animal in trouble. Go try to help". The area is almost impossible to get thru, either from the road, or from a dodgy bank of a creek down a side street. Went to the corner. This thing is still screeching its head off the whole time, BTW. Guy comes out of the last house before the creek, looks at me, and asks what I'm doing out there. I tell him why, and I am met with "What noise? I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING." Stupidly, I repeated myself: "You cannot *hear* that"- as this thing is STILL throwing a tantrum BEHIND THE HOUSE. I finally had my brain grind into gear, and realized I could be in deep, deep, DEEP poodoo if I kept up. I just turned around and walked off, with him still asking where I lived, etc. Haven't heard *it* since, but a daytime walk that way had me hear, not embellishing this at all, the sound of a massive door closing, from the same area. You know, that sound that castle doors make in those cheesy old horror movies- Grindscree*rust*CLUNKClunkclunk. I didn't have time to grab my phone, unfortunately, so no recording of that. Fun fact, There's NOTHING but woods back there, and a creek that runs 90 degrees to the whole area. No castle, no obvious cavern entrance, nothing. Just... sloping woods.

I DO have a recording of the damn monkey, tho. Or whatever the hell this thing was. If I don't get yelled at by the mods, I can provide a Google map, marked with where I was, where the noise was, etc. I also would like to know what can be used to upload an audio file (MP3), or where I can put the file online. I had to enhance it, because while thing was loud, my $1000 phone IS NOT. The audio recording is crap.

A) WHAT DID I HEAR. Animal, or.....B) Why was this guy covering it up?!C) HEAVY CASTLE DOORS. *throws up hands* I will take pics of the woods if anyone is interested, so you get a really good idea of why I'm completely bewildered.
