Unsure what to do with my debt.
Hi all,
Just looking for some advice on where to go next. Been paying down my debt for about a year now, and I am getting closer and closer to the home stretch now. Just curious about what I should do next. Below is my current situation as it sits right now. I don't think I'm in an overly bad situation, just would like to get through my debt and start aggressively saving as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Male, 27, Living in Newfoundland
- Making ~$69k annually
Debts:
- BMO Mastercard - $0 @ 19.99% - $2500 limit (Just paid this off in full last week)
- Scotiabank LOC - $10,400 @ 7.10% - $11,000 limit (Parents Co-Signed)
- Scotiabank Loan - $22,400 @ 4.24% - Vehicle Loan
Bills
- Rent - $350/Month
- Heat/Light - ~$130 Monthly
- Car Payment - $265.77 Bi-Weekly / $531.54 Monthly
- Car Insurance - $277 Monthly
- Cell Phone - $90 Monthly
Currently have about ~$2800 in a CIBC eAdvantage Savings account that myself and my SO put money in every month, whatever we feel like we can afford. She does not have a full time job yet, and we are trying to save for a down payment for a home.
Also have a joint bills account with CIBC with my SO where we pay joint bills/rent from, as well as a regular chequing account with CIBC that I use for myself.
I am now aggressively paying down my LOC debt, and using my BMO mastercard for small purchases and paying them off at the end of the month, in an attempt to rebuild my credit a little bit.
Main question is, should I consolidate all of this with one bank? What bank should I use? I would like to close my BMO credit card, open a different one with CIBC, and move my LOC to a loan with CIBC, and pay down the loan and close the LOC. (Would like to remove my parents as co-signers.) Is this a good/bad idea? Why/why not? Should I just go with whoever offers me the lowest rate?
