Too much order too soon

In Depth

I'm not exactly sure how I should address this but I wanted to reach out to Dr Peterson to both thank him and also present a dilemma I have.

Dr. Jordan Peterson, you have been one of the most influential and eye opening people I've ever come across. The notions of personal responsibility and competence and self betterment generates a genuine excitement in me about the future and I'm not sure where my head would be at where it not for you. I am 25 years old, I'm still relatively young but I feel like I've already aged past the age where certain opportunities exist for SUPER young people. Dr Peterson you talk about Chaos, order and something called Peter Pan syndrome which is where my dilemma comes in...

I feel like I grew up a little too quick, I don't know if that's a weird thought or even a problem really but it gives me FOMO. Maybe it's a case of grass is greener on the other side. I know you can't always be doing everything all the time, you always sacrifice one thing for another, but this is kind of specific. To give context, I'm 25. I first moved out of home at around 22, and it was a big leap because not only did I move out of home, but I moved overseas. I'm been in a committed relationship my whole out of school life. I've sacrificed many things like the stupidity of being young, giving yourself the chance to be young and do stupid things or live a life of chaos. I've been striving to be successful in Real Estate which is not traditionally a young persons career choice in this day and age. I picked an old profession to create success for my future and I've been living like a middle aged persons life for the longest time. This morning I listened to one of Dr Petersons speeches where he talked about the correlation between aggression in men and creativity, both flattening by 27. This terrified me as I felt that I had wasted my youth doing "grown up" and "uncreative" work and my window for being young, reckless and on a journey of self discovery is ending. I've never experienced living a life without responsibility to a committed relationship or a career and I feel that because I skipped that, I never truly discovered myself and if this is what I really want. Both in my relationship AND my career choice. I want to be doing young people things (however irresponsible and chaotic they may be). I feel by skipping this I haven't given myself the opportunity to build a solid foundation for myself. I also feel like time is running out. I have the rest of my adult life to be responsible and settled down. I feel like it is only in your early 20s where it is socially acceptable to be stupid, make mistakes and do dumb things in a journey of self discovery but in your 30s you are now suddenly a man child with Peter Pan syndrome and it is no longer acceptable. My dilemma is, should I stay true to the path I have and double down, or should I destroy what I have (even if it is going to be painful) and rebuild while I'm still young and have time?
