Has anyone emailed Gabe directly about this? People are always posting about how he reads & replies from time to time.
I emailed him on this very issue back in October 2007 after playing through Episode 2 for the second time. He didn't get back to me.
What issue?
Specifically about the uncompressed music files not being available for separate purchase.

There's no lossless edition. It's been on what.cd as a request for the longest time and people have reached out to Kelly for info. But nothing.

Your CD only has the 43 tracks? Bizarre, the gold edition should theoretically have 51 ( https://half-life.fandom.com/wiki/Half-Life_2_Soundtrack#Extras ). That CD seems to have the same 128kbit MP3 source as the other soundtracks too.

I got the Gold edition and I still have the soundtrack CD somewhere. Unfortunately I have no idea where it is, but I've seen it in the past few years. I'll take a look around and try to find it.
I know you're looking for lossless rips but if you are interested I do have all 51 tracks including the exclusive ones on my PC. Sadly they're 128kbps
Thanks but we have all the tracks in 128kbps quality. FYI: The 2014 steam release of the HL2 OST has 320kbps versions of the standard 43 tracks.
Yeah this was probably just a default settings itunes rip of the Gold soundtrack CD I did like 15 years ago. Haven't been able to find the CD itself yet but I know for a fact I still have it... somewhere.

Not sure about the best, but you should be able to use windows media player or something to rip the audio cd tracks to wav files?
lol nvm, I can certainly figure out how to rip to wav or flac, was just wondering if there was an accepted best way about it
I got the retail box collectors edition with the silver tin and t-shirt. Even the DVD in there doesn't have the audio. The Gold package was pretty pricey as I recall...
I've seen a few people who've said they had it over the years, but no one that actually followed up with proof. I've looked for this on and off for a decade now
The Silver tin is the European collector's edition, the Gold Package was one that came direct from the Steam website in unique packaging.
Glad to see lossless audio is more important than the actual VR ASPECT OF THE VR MOD
I can check next time I visit my parents (I'm pretty sure it's in my old bedroom closet). I bought the gold edition with the hat and whatnot - I was super hyped for HL2 and even spent my life savings up til that point on building my first computer just to play it at the age of 14. I remember I ripped the album way back then as well and the files are still on my server, but it looks like there are still only 43 tracks. I vaguely remember something about there being additional tracks or something, but it's been a little while...

At this point isn't that discredited? I ripped the soundtrack CD and they aren't lossless.

I have a question. Where are you going to use these tracks? In what places? (like what part of the game? chapter, place, etc)
does platinum work or no, found many platinum boxes on ebay if you can afford it.

My loose testing still shows it all as upsampled, but I can get you a copy if that helps. Heres the log

I'm a little concerned the Gold edition was just upsampled and theres no real lossless release. I'm a little worried u/The1_Freeman was right here
Thanks for checking, but thats still missing tracks 44-51, which are listed as "Exclusive Extras" in the limited edition gold package.
First track is ALWAYS in HQ (assuming they took the Valve Theme from HL1 and put it on the CD itself), if you check the other tracks, they may appear compressed as if it was a MP3
