I think your villager population is off, i had 20 villagers in a custom village before a golem finally spawned. 3 cats were almost constant.

I'm not sure what's up. I had it lower, about 8 blocks above the ground, and the golems and cats were spawning on the ground and not the platform.

So i raised it up, saw one golem fall from underneath the platform and I haven't seen any since then.

This is bedrock, and I have 10 villagers and 26 beds. I used silentwisperer's farm

Yeah I'm having cat problems with that farm design too, although I am getting golem spawns (just reaaaaally slow). I also have myself convinced that cats and golems share a spawn cap, and that the golem rate gets even lower (and eventually stops entirely) if you don't get rid of the cats. Looks like at least one survived the lava blade on you, so this could be your issue.

Also check for cats spawning essentially inside the beds on the platform beneath your spawner...took me a long time to spot those. I got rid of the blocks (now the beds are just floating) and that seemed to solve that issue.

I do still get cats spawning outside the farm and infesting my base, though....and I honestly can't figure out for the life of me how to make it stop. I have literally seen cats poof into existence 10 blocks up in midair outside of the bounds of my farm...so confused!

Anyway, I go on an occasional cat-killing spree (which is a little annoying, since the farm isn't supposed to require any manual intervention), and that seems to spike my golem rates for a while until the cats re-accumulate.

This is all anecdotal, though....the rates are so slow that it's difficult to be sure whether any of my actions are impacting them....realistically you'd have to run it for days in a given configuration to be sure you're counting accurately, and I don't have that kind of patience.

Hope some of this helps, and let me know if you discover anything that might be helpful in your own testing!

That lava blade wasn't killing all the cats so I had to add a other layer of lava to make sure they were catching fire. The golems stopped spawning before that guy showed up though.

I got rid of those blocks under the bed as well. I had raised the iron farm up about 40 blocks and saw a golem spawn out of no where and fall down to the ground so I figured he was spawning on those somehow.

I notice today that some cats were hanging out on top of that corner where the villagers go. I put a perimeter of glass around the platform to keep the cats from falling off. I'll let you know if I notice an improvement on that.

I run around and kill off any cats I see hanging out at the bottom. This morning I had about 20 I think just hanging in out in the bamboo.

Hopefully they fix the spawn rates for golems in the next update. I kind of feel like a golem spawned and wandered a bit off but is still linked that village. I've looked all over and haven't seen him.

I'll probably end up tearing it down and rebuilding over the ocean so I can get those ocean drops too.

I think you are right about the cats and golems being tied to each other. I killed that one cat that was trapped in the bottom and a little while later I noticed a golem in the kill chamber!

Innnnteresting. And also terrifying to think that just one cat might have been enough to stop golem spawns entirely! Hope we can figure out a way to work around it.

Wait... so cats DO respawn in villages? I remember a bit back someone told me they didn't.

jpierOP•

Yes they cap at 20 I believe.

I took a look at the silent whisper farm, and i have some issues with what i have seen.

Doing some research on the mc wikis, in particular villages, i found that villigar population is corrilated with doors still, i will look for exact numbers to edit in later, but basiclly i believe you do need doors to improve villager rates. Second thing is golems are created after enough golem gossip is spread. With between 8 and 10 villagers, i do not believe you will be maintaining a golem majority gossip (what is needed for a golem to spawn).

Based on my personal observations on a hard survival bedrock village i created, you will need at a minimum 20 villagers existing withen the village. When there is 20 villagers, the threat of zombie attacks becomes a thing meaning they need protection thus golem

So for your farm i would do a few things.

  1. Add a bell near the middle of your platform in order to define it as a village center (not required)
  2. Add doors by the beds, at a minimum 1 to every four beds i believe (will check)
  3. Increase population to 20 at a minumum.

Will edit as i find corrisponding info

Ok found sumthin, i am guessing you are on bedeock edition, if that is true the beds need to be unobstructed by blocks as can be found in the mechanics portion of the wiki

This is interesting stuff...I'm not ready to trust the wiki yet, as it doesn't appear to have been fully updated to suit V&P. The content in the mechanics section about doors appears to be the same as it was prior to the update, and does not align with my personal experience (for example). I'm not suggesting that I have any idea what's going on either, of course, but I'm hesitant to base any designs on the content of the wiki.

I can say, also from my personal experience, that beds being visible and/or accessible to villagers is not required for golems to spawn. Of course I have to be open to this being unintended behaviour, but I have silentwisperer's farm working in my survival world and as you can see the beds are separated from the villagers by a solid platform.

I also haven't seen any suggestion other than yours above that Bells have any bearing on Bedrock golem mechanics (they definitely do in Java as I understand it).

Again, I'm not saying any of your advice above is incorrect, just summarizing my own experience that seems to contradict some of it....hopefully if we compile enough anecdotal evidence, we can build a model of the mechanics that actually works!

[EDIT]: I just noticed that you very explicitly labeled your bell suggestion as optional...figured rather than ninja-edit out my ignorance I'd leave it as-is just to reinforce that I'm really taking shots in the dark here :)

Hey it all sounds good to me, im not an expert on any of the stuff im talking about either (otherwise i wouldnt look it up XD) to OP, disregard my bit about the beds then. I was going off wiki

1
jpierOP•

I don't think that wiki is very accurate. I've had golems spawning out of it up until very recently. I think I have a golem hidden on the ground somewhere and that might be why it's not working. From what I've seen cats and golems spawn under that same situations in bedrock at least, and I'm getting a shit ton of cats.

If you haven't check out DB80's video on iron farms.

EndlessBlueOcean•

This is not true.

1
EndlessBlueOcean•

None of this is accurate for bedrock edition.

There is no gossip system on bedrock. I have never heard of doors affecting villager/iron golem spawning in the new update. Villagers do not even need access to a bed or a workstation.

GiveMe30Dollars•

Same thing here. Golem spawns are just bad on Bedrock, ESPECIALLY IF THE IDIOT IS PLAYING ON EXPERIMENTAL GAMEPLAY

AHH

2
jpierOP•

Yeah they are terrible. I hope they fix it soon.

JayAhern•

I had to shut mine down, felt bad for the imaginary cats.

Frisky_Frogs•

I’m confused, have you broken an iron farm? They’re very simple to create now

1
jpierOP•

They were simple before as well. Turns out that cat, that was trapped below the lava was somehow keeping golems from spawning. Once i killed it the iron golems started to spawn again.

2
Frisky_Frogs•

I know before the new update that you had to play with doors to create villages, but that’s about it. Looked complex to build compared to floating beds like it is now :)

Hadn’t figured a cat could stop golems, I’ll try luring a load more to my village to stop the insane amount of golems

why yku hurt the kittys 😔😔😔😔😔😭😭😭😩

josh_reen•

I have this same problem on ps4. Can someone please help so that iron golems will spawn

1
parishiIt0n•

I read somewhere that if you kill the cats there's a chance that the villagers dont get "informed" of the event and would not discount that cat from the cat+golem 10 cap. Which I think is a terrifying thought

Hi, i know its abit old of a page, but im on Switch Bedrock and making my first iron farm. I got a set that works but i plan on it being a underground farm on my survival world so im not to sure about if it will work in survival.
