FFOF issue?

Question

has anyone else had a issue growing in Fox Farms Ocean Forest (FFOF) soil? It seems like the ph is just naturally too low to grow in healthy. I have a plant that was my healthiest plant the whole grow now about 45 days in 3/4 of the plant is yellow. I water with 6.7-6.8 ph tap water with nutes. the plant is continuing to get more and more yellow as the days go on and some of the fan leaves are drying out/wilting. i can add a pic later. i added a little extra micro to this batch and still getting yellow. it seems like its a ph issue but if im watering at 6.8 what else could i do?

Every. Single. Ffof. Grow. Goes. Acidic. Usually. Around. Week 6.

I used ffof one time, the oyster shell breaks down way to quickly to be able to buffer soil all grow. Almost every single ffof grower experiences the soil going super acidic late into flower.

I’ll never use their terrible soil again....

that's crazy that's right around when i started to have real problems with the grow. if you don't mind what medium do you use now?

Promix hp amended with some ewc and proper mineral ratio. I also never ph my water or ppm.

I started growing with ffof, I also had issues with ffof at around flower week 5. Have since switched to pro mix, LC's soilless mix basically. Haven't had those problems since!

It’s because of the reason I stated above. It’s terrible soil.

I now use docs bud High Brix kit which uses promix hp , ewc, and minerals.

Sorry to have not answered. But what I had to do at week six was an extremely heavy flush. Put both my plants in the shower, flushed water till run off was almost clear, and than immediately fed them with half strength nutes that have been ph’Ed. This should help correct the soils acid levels.

ok thank you for the info!

Promix hp amended.

I'm growing in FFOF too, I might try some Gaia green oyster shell flour. It claims to balance ph in acidic soil.

Limestone or oyster shell flour added to the soil at flip will prevent the acidification and yellowing .

i will look into that thank you!

Conveniently I was looking into Gaia Green products this morning. I might also try their 4-4-4 all purpose as an amendment before switching to flower.

Huge issues. Will not use it again.

Yeah im getting a vibe like everyone who used it said they wouldn’t use it again.

Some yellowing is normal at this stage. Were the plants in picture just watered? Very droopy and claw-ish. Have you tried any magnesium additives like calmag or epsom salt?

the picture was a day before watering (picture taken on Monday, watered Tuesday). i have not added any cal/mag but i do have a bottle of it so i can add if needed. you do you think that would help? im going to add a picture of the plant today in about an hour when i go home for lunch.

How much you feeding versus what the bottle suggests?

this was my schedule roughly (per/1 gallon):

week 1: no nutes

week 2: 2ml Micro / 4ml Bloom

week 3-5: 3ml Micro / 6ml Bloom

week 6+: 4ml Micro / 8ml Bloom

These are the general hydroponics nutes. give or take a little of each depending on if i felt like my plants need a little more or less each watering

Would it be possible to get an Update on this?

What steps did you take to address the high acidity, any adverse effects of those corrections?

yeah no problem. So i first started with a flush of my one plant. after a couple days i saw no progress of it getting any better, so that didn't work. I was then told about dolomite lime that you can add to the soil which acts like a ph buffer. within in days i saw the plants starting to get more healthy than they were. it didn't completely fix the problem since the plants have had this issues for a little while now but it definitely helped. I noticed a bunch of the yellow leaves that weren't completely wilted starting to turn green again which is a great sign. id suggest you add it to your soil now even if you do not have the problems yet. I have learned that the oyster shells (i think that's what they are called) which are the ph buffer in the soil from the bag tends to break down after week 6 or so. i believe i did 1 tablespoon per gallon of soil. basically just sprinkle it evenly around the top of the soil and then do your normal watering and it should sink right into the soil.

Thanks a ton for the quick response. I’ve been using FFOF for a couple of months now, and the Soil most definitely spikes after a month or so. Lime seems to be the best corse of action, thanks again.

no problem man, hope it works for you!
