Online Science Writing Group for Grad Students?
Are any grad students interested in forming an online writing group this summer/year, based on the book Writing Science by Joshua Schimel?
It's a great book explaining how to write science (big surprise), and there are mini-assignments at the end of each chapter. The author recommends students work on the mini-assignments separately, and then bring them to an (online) meeting of 3-4 students to review each others' work. The main goal is to become better writers and effective communicators. I'm thinking only a 1-hour commitment every 2 weeks to minimize stress. There are 19 chapters with exercises so it would be over 38 weeks.
The book is available online for free at my institution's library. Might be good to check your library first.
I'm starting my third year of an epidemiology phd, and I'm trying to write my first paper and thesis chapters. And it's challenging. Looking for grad students with similar problems and motivation to write better. I didn't get much response among students in my department, so I figured I'd try Reddit.
Please DM me if interested. Thanks.
