Is the defining characteristic of a fake BF-F8HP the lack of "mid" power?

My radio is labeled a BF-F8HP but there is no power option for "mid". The firmware indicated in CHIRP is "HN5RV01" but on the radio it comes up as "BFB298". When checking the FCC CMIIT number "2017FP3280" it is indicated as "equipment type DM-5R". I am assuming I got a an early UV-5 variant of some sort and not what is on the label.
